Welcome to the Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education (<strong>PGDDE</strong>) programme.<br />

We hope that you have gone through the Programme Guide for <strong>PGDDE</strong> carefully. We have<br />

explained there that it is important to complete the assignments within the stipulated time to<br />

become eligible to appear for the term-end examination of <strong>IGNOU</strong>. All the assignments of<br />

<strong>PGDDE</strong> are Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) and are part of the continuous evaluation<br />

process.<br />

Before you write the assignments, read the instructions provided in the Programme Guide and go<br />

through the course materials carefully. Please read the instructions pertaining to assignments<br />

before you start writing your answers. If you have any doubt or problems pertaining to the courses<br />

and assignments, contact the concerned academic counsellor at your Study Centre. If you still<br />

have problems, do feel free to contact us at STRIDE.<br />

You are requested to go through the course materials first and then prepare the assignment<br />

response following the instructions. Your responses should not be a verbatim reproduction of the<br />

textual materials/blocks provided for self-learning purposes. Please submit your assignment<br />

responses at the Study Centre allotted to you before the due date as mentioned. <strong>PGDDE</strong><br />

Assignment responses are neither received nor evaluated at STRIDE.<br />

Note: The minimum standard for completion of a course and also the <strong>PGDDE</strong> programme are<br />

the following:<br />

a) Minimum 'D' grade in Continuous Evaluation i.e., each assignment in each course.<br />

b) Minimum 'C' grade in the Term-end Examination in each course.<br />

c) Final grade in a course (Assignments + Term-end Examination) should be at least<br />

'C'.<br />

1) Answer the following question in about 800 words.<br />

Discuss the ways and means of meeting the different types of educational and training<br />

demands of India and other developing countries through Open Distance Learning. Give<br />

appropriate examples and illustrations.<br />

2) Answer any three of the following in about 250-300 words each.<br />

a) Discuss the importance of skills development through Distance Education.<br />

b) Explain the terms ‘Correspondence Education’, ‘Distance Education’ and ‘Open<br />

Education’.<br />

c) What is the significance of pre-enrolment counseling.<br />

d) Write a note on the spread of Distance Education in Europe.<br />

e) Highlight the special features of refugees’ education in Zambia.<br />

3) Answer the following question in about 800 words.<br />

Keeping in view the significance of two way communication, write an essay on the<br />

potential of modern technologies in improving distance education practices.<br />

1) Answer the following question in about 800 words.<br />

‘‘The process of course production is complex, individual and emotional.’’ Justify this<br />

statement with the help of appropriate illustrations.<br />

2) Answer any three of the following questions in about 250-300 words each.<br />

a) Describe the basic conditions of learning with reference to their relevance in designing<br />

self-learning materials.<br />

b) Critically analyse the two different research traditions pertaining to instructional<br />

objectives.<br />

c) Prepare a checklist for judging the quality concerns in self-learning print materials.<br />

d) Discuss the two important roles of assignments in distance teaching. Enumerate the<br />

important functions of self-assessment and tutor-marked assessment in distance<br />

education.<br />

3) Answer the following question in about 1200 words.<br />

Consider yourself a writer of self-learning materials for distance learners. Prepare a unit of<br />

1200 words on a theme of your choice. Specify the level of your target group before you<br />

write a unit. Your unit should have all the features of self-learning materials.<br />
