There is a strong need for enhanc<strong>in</strong>g household level car<strong>in</strong>g practices <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>tegrated<br />
way. The experiences <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> community from positive deviance cases are real practical issues<br />
to be considered <strong>in</strong> behavior change communication for better car<strong>in</strong>g practices. Community’s<br />
own car<strong>in</strong>g practices should be promoted particularly dur<strong>in</strong>g acute food shocks and<br />
emergencies s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> level care suffers.<br />
Even though <strong>the</strong>re are different care <strong>in</strong>itiatives undertaken both by <strong>the</strong> government<br />
and by NGOs, <strong>the</strong>re is an urgent need for <strong>in</strong>tegration and a comprehensive <strong>assessment</strong> to be<br />
undertaken to determ<strong>in</strong>e <strong>the</strong> appropriate car<strong>in</strong>g practices required to confront <strong>the</strong> state <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>malnutrition</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Ethiopia</strong>.<br />
If <strong>the</strong> government <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ethiopia</strong>, through <strong>the</strong> NNS, does put <strong>in</strong> place a clear<br />
accountability framework for <strong>the</strong> sectors concerned with nutrition, it is still quite possible that<br />
nutritional care issues will receive less attention than <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r determ<strong>in</strong>ants. Nutrition <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Ethiopia</strong> may move from <strong>the</strong> current ‘food-bias’ to hav<strong>in</strong>g a ‘health and food-bias’, while<br />
neglect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> good care. Aga<strong>in</strong> this will not alleviate nutrition <strong>in</strong>security <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Ethiopia</strong>.<br />
