Growth monitor<strong>in</strong>g refers to <strong>the</strong> regular <strong>assessment</strong> <strong>of</strong> growth performance <strong>in</strong><br />

children <strong>in</strong> order to apply appropriate <strong>in</strong>terventions based on <strong>the</strong> analysis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cause and on<br />

available resources. The triple-A cycle <strong>of</strong> <strong>assessment</strong>-analysis-action can be used to do this<br />

(Figure 4.9).<br />

Assessment <strong>in</strong>volves weigh<strong>in</strong>g children on a regular basis and determ<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g where<br />

<strong>the</strong>y are categorized as compared to a reference standard for <strong>the</strong>ir age and sex. In do<strong>in</strong>g so,<br />
