Projects TCP Pacing October-December 2010<br />

An altern<strong>at</strong>ive to <strong>the</strong> TCP congestion control mechanism, an adaptive TCP pacing mechanism,<br />

was proposed and was shown to outperform <strong>the</strong> former in a d<strong>at</strong>a-center setting by<br />

speeding up <strong>the</strong> slowest flows.<br />

Quantifying Inform<strong>at</strong>ion Leakage in a Multi-Layer-Security System September 2010-April<br />

2011<br />

Modeled <strong>the</strong> working <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> NRL Network Pump, a standard for mitig<strong>at</strong>ing covert channels<br />

th<strong>at</strong> arise in a multi-level secure (MLS) system, as a communic<strong>at</strong>ion system with feedback<br />

and used <strong>the</strong>n this novel perspective to derive an upper bound on <strong>the</strong> r<strong>at</strong>e <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> covert<br />

channel cre<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>the</strong>rein.<br />

Molecular Communic<strong>at</strong>ion December 2008 - June 2009<br />

Modeled a molecular communic<strong>at</strong>ion channel and studied <strong>the</strong> inform<strong>at</strong>ion-<strong>the</strong>oretic limits<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> achievable r<strong>at</strong>es. Molecular communic<strong>at</strong>ion is <strong>the</strong> communic<strong>at</strong>ion between nanomachines<br />

wherein messages are transmitted by releasing a p<strong>at</strong>tern <strong>of</strong> molecules <strong>at</strong> a<br />

transmitter, which propag<strong>at</strong>e through a fluid medium towards a receiver.<br />

Projects rel<strong>at</strong>ed to machine learning February - April 2010<br />

Used Naive Bayes classifier, decision tree and perceptron to predict <strong>the</strong> grades <strong>of</strong> students<br />

<strong>of</strong> a class based on <strong>the</strong>ir performance in a subset <strong>of</strong> exams. A Supervised learning<br />

algorithm using hidden Markov models (HMMs), and an unsupervised one using Baunm-Welsch<br />

forward-backward algorithm were used for part-<strong>of</strong>-speech tagging. Designed a bot capable<br />

<strong>of</strong> playing <strong>the</strong> game O<strong>the</strong>llo.<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> face recognition algorithms October - December 2007<br />

Four dimentionality reduction and clustering algorithms, PCA, D-LDA, F-LDA and R-LDA,<br />

were implemented to be used for face recognition.<br />

B.Tech project January 2007 - May 2007<br />

A FDE-DFE (Frequency Domain Equalizer - Decision Feedback Equalizer) was implemented and<br />

its effectiveness in comb<strong>at</strong>ing multi-p<strong>at</strong>h fading when used in EDGE systems was studied<br />

through simul<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />

Implemented a speech independent speaker recognition system September - October 2006<br />

Demonstr<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> construction and working <strong>of</strong> a speaker recognition system <strong>at</strong> a workshop<br />

conducted <strong>at</strong> IIT Madras. Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients were extracted from <strong>the</strong><br />

speech signal and were used as fe<strong>at</strong>ures in a HMM.<br />

Designed and built an electronic accounting machine May - July 2005<br />

Interfaced a micro-controller (8051) with a keypad, LCD, RAM, and programmed it to store<br />

students’ accounts in <strong>the</strong> library. The circuit was fabric<strong>at</strong>ed on a custom built PCB.<br />
