SCOTLAND<br />
Scotland continue to work with colleagues throughout the UK and across Europe through their membership<br />
on the British-Irish Council (BIC) and the leadership they provide in taking forward the Marine <strong>Energy</strong><br />
Workstream and through their membership of the EU <strong>Ocean</strong> Interest <strong>Energy</strong> Group in which they support<br />
the work to raise the profile and potential of ocean energy within the EU.<br />
WALES<br />
The main source for large funding, both revenue and capital, is via the EU Convergence & Competitiveness Fund<br />
administered by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO). The Welsh Government are engaged<br />
with WEFO and the European Commission to consider a structural fund programme post 2013 and how<br />
that might support the marine energy sector.<br />
NORTHERN IRELAND<br />
Invest NI working with the Marine Institute in ROI in the development of ICT with SMEs and International<br />
Companies in the Smart <strong>Ocean</strong> initiative.<br />

New Developments<br />
In October <strong>2012</strong>, Alstom announced the acquisition of Tidal Generation Limited (TGL) from Rolls Royce.<br />
Results from the Crown Estate individual scheme leasing process in <strong>2012</strong> were:<br />

Lease with Voith Hydro Wavegen for its Siadar project in the Western Isle.<br />
ÌÌ<br />
Tidal <strong>Energy</strong> awarded rights for a project at St David’s head in Pembrokeshire, Devon.<br />
ÌÌ<br />
Pulse Tidal awarded rights to develop a site off at Lynmouth in Devon<br />
ÌÌ<br />
Lease agreed for a test facility, Solent <strong>Ocean</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Centre, near St. Catherine’s Point in the Isle of<br />
Wight.<br />
ÌÌ<br />
Lease agreement with Scottish company Scotrenewables Tidal Power to develop a 30MW tidal stream<br />
array at Lashy Sound, Orkney Islands.<br />
ÌÌ<br />
Minesto, a Swedish technology developer, secured lease agreement to deploy a 3kW Deep Green <strong>Ocean</strong><br />
Kite tidal device in Strangford Lough, NI.
