1.5 Structure of the thesis
The thesis is structured as follows:
Chapter 2 outlines relevant background theory on work, learning and reflection, with a
focus on the choice of an adequate theoretical framework to address the main research
question of the thesis.
Chapter 3 gives an overview of state-of-the art research in the areas of project based
learning and lightweight tool support for work in Software Engineering and SE student
projects.
Chapter 4 presents the research approach of the PhD work and discusses its strengths
and limitations.
