Ide Primary School Newsletter 33 Telephone 01392 259964 Website - www.ide.devon.sch.uk Dear Parents and Carers, Thursday 27 th May 2010 Wow, it just seems that the school is so busy and exciting at the moment! Last week Class 1 played host to their grandparents, who came and visited the school and the children held a tea party for them in the afternoon. On Friday, Class 4 worked with the Maths Sculpture, Simon Thomas, to create some amazing mathematical sculptures - please pop into the classroom to have a look. Appointment of Class 2 Teacher Yesterday the governors interviewed a very strong field of candidates for the post of Class 2 teacher and I am pleased to announce that Mrs Louise Moretta was successful and has been appointed. I know parents will be pleased with the continuity that this will bring to Class 2 and Mrs Moretta has some lovely ideas for future developments. Great Outdoors Week - 21 st June – 25 th June Our focus for this week will be to use the Outdoors as a stimulus for learning across the curriculum, particularly, Art, Geography and Literacy. Staff have been busy planning a week of enriched learning around this theme. To start off the week, on the Monday, children can come dressed for the Great Outdoors, as Explorers past and present, those from history, or maybe a job connected to the outdoor theme or a walker or bug hunter! During the week, all classes will take part in several art workshops. We have collaborated with the DAISI project and with funding from the Helen Foundation have secured the opportunity for the children to work with an artist to create some clay tiles. The children told us that they would like to do more clay and 3D work. Also the staff will be doing some printing with the children. If you could be an extra pair of hands during that week to support with the messy business of printing (aprons provided) or walks out of school or during the clay workshops, could you please sign up on the board in the entrance hall. Play Trail You may have noticed the addition of an all weather surface to the play trail. We hope that this will extend its use to days when the field is too wet to play on but the equipment is dry enough. The children of all ages really do still love playing on and using this equipment. Tesco and Sainsbury Vouchers Keep collecting – we have over 4000 Tesco vouchers and are aiming for 5000, the Tesco scheme has closed now so please bring in any remaining vouchers. Do you bring a packed lunch? If you do - could parents please send children with spoons and cutlery that is needed for the children to eat yoghurts, salads etc that is within the packed lunch as the kitchen only have enough cutlery for those having school dinners.
