Is saying “Internet of xxx” misleading?
Dirk Trossen, Chief Researcher, BT Research in a recent talk at the Internet of
Things 2008 conference says that think of the various xxx’s impairs our thinking
and results in embedded concerns into the architecture, thus he proposed “Tussle
networking”[30].
This is because communication is delimited by questions such as [30]:
• Who to share what with?
• Where to deliver/produce/consume/…
• What to receive in return?
• How to receive what I need?
• What is it used for?
He goes on to say that the concerns of “individuals, organizations, communities,
and societies could lead to conflicts (tussles)” ⇒ explictly representing concerns
as constraints. These are resolved at run time via “policy mediation, negotiation,
and enforcement”.
