Jitter Control<br />

average departure rate = receiver arrival rate<br />

• Then jitter is caused by queue waits due to competing traffic<br />

• Queue waits should be at most the amount of competing traffic in<br />

transit, total amount of in transit data should be at most round trip<br />

propagation time<br />

(100 ms <strong>for</strong> transcontinental path)<br />

(64 kbit/sec => buffer = 8 kb/s*0.1 sec = 800 bytes)<br />
