Multicast Routing - Flooding
• maintaining a list of recently seen packets (last 2 minutes), if it has
been seen before, then delete it, otherwise copy to a cache/database
and send a copy on all (except the incoming) interface.
✘Disadvantages:
◆ Maintaining a list of “last-seen” packets. This list can be fairly long in high speed networks
◆ The “last-seen” lists guarantee that a router will not forward the same packet twice, but it certainly does not
guarantee that the router will receive a packet only once.
✔ Advantages
◆ Robustness
◆ It does not depend on any routing tables.
