Introduction, Presentation and Welcome<br />
The 11th EUROPEAN VACUUM CONFERENCE, EVC-11, is continuation <strong>of</strong> the series started in Salford, England, in 1988 under the<br />
initiative <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor J. Colligon, <strong>of</strong> the Manchester University. The main aim is to join scientist and engineers <strong>of</strong> the vacuum<br />
and application field from the European Community as well from other countries to discuss the latest state <strong>of</strong> the art in different<br />
topics <strong>of</strong> the conference from the previous meeting held in Balaton Lake, Hungary.<br />
The Conference is held jointly with the 9th IBERIAN VACUUM MEETING, the join biannual meeting <strong>of</strong> the SPANISH VACUUM SO-<br />
CIETY, ASEVA, and PORTUGUESE VACUUM SOCIETY, SOPORVAC, started in 1989 in Braga, Portugal, and the 6th EUROPEAN TOPI-<br />
CAL CONFERENCE ON HARD COATINGS, initiate in Alicante, Spain in 1991. The meetings are co-organised by ASEVA and SOPOR-<br />
VAC and we cordially invite you to participate and present the recent results <strong>of</strong> your research or technical improvements.<br />
We are aware on the difficulties to prepare a program in the heterogeneous field <strong>of</strong> Vacuum <strong>Science</strong> and Applications, but participants<br />
have the unique opportunity to interchange with topics that can be correlated with his field and could be an input for<br />
your own research.<br />

During the week before the IUVSTA workshop on “Surface Phenomena Limiting Pressure in Vacuum Systems” will take place<br />
in Ávila (100 km from <strong>Madrid</strong> and 95 Km from Salamanca.<br />
Two IUVSTA short courses program in coincidence with these events has been arranged. We invite young scientist from any<br />
part <strong>of</strong> the world but especially from developing countries to attend the courses.<br />
An EXHIBITION has also organized jointly with the Conference and we expect that you will have the chance to know about the<br />
latest developments in instrumentation. A technical session has been also organized where manufacturers may present new<br />
instrumentation. Please do not forget to visit it.<br />

PUBLICATION<br />
Presentations will be published as a regular issue <strong>of</strong> the Journal Vacuum. To prepare the manuscripts follow the instructions<br />
as stated in the Vacuum Journal. Maximum length is: Invited presentations 5000 words, about four printed pages. Presentations<br />
3000 word, about three printed pages. Manuscript exceeding these limits will not be accepted. Manuscript will be referee<br />
according to the Journal standards. At the beginning <strong>of</strong> the manuscript three possible referees will be indicated.<br />
