CSMVS Museum Art Conservation Centre MISSION STATEMENT The CSMVS Museum Art Conservation Centre (MACC), Mumbai aims to spearhead heritage conservation-restoration, R&D and training activities in India, as well as in other nations in the region, and will encourage collaborations and share conservation expertise through its interlinked units (i) Conservation Status Reports Unit; (ii) Conservation-Restoration Unit; (iii) Technical Support Unit; (iv) Education Unit; (v) Documentation Unit; (vi) Research & Development Unit Present Facilities The Museum Art Conservation Centre (MACC) is housed in an area of 4000 sq ft in the Kalaghoda art district of Mumbai. The facility has a climate controlled environment and round the clock CCTV surveillance. MACC offers its conservation, research and documentation services to various museums, cultural institutions and private collectors. The facility is manned by a team of dedicated art conservatorsrestorers and support teams who are trained to conserve art objects of various materials and technologies. MACC's Technical Support, Research & Development Units provide technical support to various institutions and are well equipped and manned to undertake various diagnostic examinations including microscopy, spectrometry, fluorescence, X-Ray, 3D imaging, and other art analyses. MACC's Education Unit imparts training in conservation-restoration and related fields. In affiliation with the University of Mumbai it conducts courses in PG Diploma in Museology and Conservation and is now developing a Certificate Programme for Undergraduates as well as a Masters Programme in Art Conservation. It regularly conducts workshops, training programmes, conferences and lectures. The Education Unit also serves as a Coordination Unit for various conferences and Seminars. It successfully coordinated the Commonwealth Association of Museums Conference in June 2010 that was attended by 110 delegates. Its first workshop ‘CUSTODIANS EMPOWERED’ on Conservation of Manuscripts and Archival Documents, was held on November 23-25, 2010.
