, LOCAL UNION 1096 REPRESENTATIVES To OVERSEE NEW TRAINING PROGRAM • .. The Specialty Metals Division (SMD) of Westinghouse in Blairsville, iPennsylvania is putting the finishing rouchcs on an important new training program that will payoff in a big way (or participating employees and the Pivision in the years ahead. It's the Maintenance Training Program, slated to gel underway before i)le end of the year. The program will qualify particijJanls fOf journeyman status as pipefitters, millwrights. or electricians de 'jtending on which craft training they pursuc and succcssfully complclc. Training in thosc crafls will be comprehc!.sivc, wi th special emphasis on skills and lechniques needed to perform ' maintcnance tasks in SM D. A six-member committee of SM D management people and IB EW Local 1096 represe ntatives will oversee the entirc training program, which meets the Standards of Apprenticeship and has been registered with both the Pennsylvania Apprenticeship and Training Council and lhe U.S. Departmenl of Labor. Serving on thc eommillee are union appointees Jack Ropp, Nelson Gundy, and Joe Kabnla and management appointees Ben Baklarz, John Carrera, and John Catanese. All arc involved in maintenance functions and will share Ihe responsibililY of monitoring trainees' progress and providing guidance or a s~ i s lance as needed.
