PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
ROTARY CLUB
OF LAKE
ARROWHEAD
Spring is just
around the corner
and your
Lake Arrowhead
Rotary Club is
actively planning
its next great
event, the 2013
Art and Wine
Festival. Set in
the spectacular
Tavern Bay
TERRY RAYWORTH Beach Club,
President 2012-13 overlooking the
water just a few
feet away, you can take in the fresh air
and beauty that is reserved for the
mountains. Each visitor will experience
the various wares that our vendors carefully
craft for the discerning eye. How
about the WINE! If you are a consummate
connoisseur or someone who just
enjoys the great taste of a fine wine, then
our wine tasting booth is for you. Bob
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Rotary, an organization made up of local business
people, and retired professionals, 1.2 million
world wide, is given to make our local communities
and the world a better place to live. Our primary
objective is captured in the motto, SERVICE
ABOVE SELF. To aid each of us (Rotarians) in focusing
our time, skills, energy, and yes, money, towards
this goal, Rotary has identified five (5) Avenues of
Service. These include CLUB SERVICE, COMMU-
NITY SERVICE, INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ,
VOCATIONAL SERVICE, and the newest one
NEW GENERATIONS SERVICE.
As in years past, the Rotary Avenue of Service
known as Community Service was a busy street during
2012 for the Rotary Club
of Lake Arrowhead. This
noon Club continues to reach
out to our local communities
in providing Service Above
Self in form of energy, time,
and dollars. Those dollars
come into our Club’s
Foundation in many ways,
including that fun and wet
event, the POLAROTARY
PLUNGE, recently held at the
Lake Arrowhead Resort.
Money raised for our
Foundation from this exciting
jump in the lake is destined
for our mountain kids, and
includes programs coordinated
with the Rim of the World
School District.
Recipients of many of the
other dollars that find their way into our Foundation
and distributed by your neighbors, local Rotarians,
last year and throughout earlier years, have included
the Mountains Community Hospital Foundation,
Arrowhead Arts Association, our local Soroptimists
for Women’s Health Programs, a Dental Screening
Program conducted at our local elementary schools
targeting children from low income families, the
Lake Arrowhead Classical Ballet Company in support
of the children’s Nutcracker performances, and
the Mountain Communities Boys and Girls Club.
Others joining this list have included the Blue Jay
Jazz Festival, Rim of the World Historical Society,
the Lake Arrowhead Ranch in support of their educational
programs, the San
Bernardino County Sheriff’s
office during their Holiday
Food Drive to provide meals
for needy families, and
Operation Provider.
Rotarians in our three mountaintop
Rotary Clubs continue
to be active and energetic
community supporters as evidenced
by this partial listing.
If interested in learning more,
or becoming a part of this
contributing group, feel free
to join the Rotarians of the
Rotary Club of Lake
Arrowhead, your neighbors,
for lunch, Tuesdays, 12 noon,
at Woody’s Boathouse in the
Lake Arrowhead Village.
