Several males and some females were trained for riding and baggage
transport. This was easy and was accomplished more quickly
than would have been the case with horses. They show strong individual
character and are very pleasant animals to work with.
REPRODUCTION AND LACTATION
Maturity has been reached at between 6 and 8 years. Data from
11 females on the Ngare Ndare ranch are presented in table 11-1 and
show an average calving interval of 22 months (range 14-26 months).
