In summary, there is a serious need for the development of improved<br />
plant materials for rangel<strong>and</strong> revegetation use. Within the<br />
diversity of plant species native to arid <strong>and</strong> semiarid rangel<strong>and</strong>s,<br />
there is ample variability from which to select in developing varieties<br />
BUitable for the stressful conditions characteristic of rangel<strong>and</strong> environments.<br />
Traditional methods, in concert with newer techniques in<br />
biotechnology, hold promise for developing improved plant materials<br />
needed to meet the challenges of renewing degraded rangel<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
