Rossford resident indicted
by a grand jury for burglary
On February 6, a Wood
County grand jury indicted
a Rossford resident for burglary.
Andrew R. Okonski, 32,
of Valley Drive, has been
indicted on one count of
burglary, a felony of the
second degree, in an incident
which allegedly
occurred on January 16.
If convicted, he faces
fines of up to $15,000 and
eight years in prison.
His case has been
assigned to Wood County
Common Pleas Judge
Reeve Kelsey.
A Rossford man was
arrested last week for his
alleged involvement in a
“chop shop” ring operated
in east Toledo.
Gary Wymer Sr., 55, of
Hillside Avenue was taken
into custody at his home
February 7, by FBI agents
and Rossford police.
Also arrested were
Mike Wymer, Mike
Deutsch, Terry Wymer Jr.
and Shawn Wymer, based
on a federal complaint
filed in U.S. Court, Northern
District of Ohio for
their involvement in a
scheme involving stealing
cargo and dismantling
semi-trucks and trailers.
An arrest warrant also
was issued for Robert
Debolt.
“These
defendants
operated a truck and cargo
theft ring, stealing from
Ohio, Michigan and Indiana,
which resulted in
multi-million-dollar losses,”
said Stephen Anthony,
special agent in charge of
the FBI’s northern district
of Ohio, in a statement
released last week.
U.S. Attorney Steven
Dettelbach added, “This
was a highly organized
group that stole from people
throughout the region.
The FBI, Ohio State Patrol
and all the law enforcement
partners involved in
this investigation have
done a tremendous job
shutting down this ring.”
Three search warrants
were executed at 642 Sterling
and 2322 Consaul in
Toledo, two suspected
chop shop locations, and at
661 Sterling in Toledo, the
home of Mike Wymer,
according to the FBI press
statement.
Items
confiscated
include keys, titles, license
plates, paperwork from
stolen semi-trucks and
trailers, ATVs, motorcycles,
crushers, front end
loaders and dump trucks.
In September, the Ohio
Highway
Patrol
approached the FBI about
joining forces to investigate
reports of semi-trucks
and trailers with contained
cargo being stolen. The
joint investigation revealed
an extensive scheme that
reached into Ohio’s neighboring
states.
The individuals arrested
are suspected of being
involved in a conspiracy to
steal trailers in as many as
nine Ohio towns, six towns
in Indiana, and three in
Michigan from September
to December 2012, resulting
in an estimated loss of
more than $2 million,
according to the FBI.
Items within those trailers
included ATVs, rolled
copper wire, thousands of
pounds of aluminum scrap
metal, aluminum shavings,
diamond plate sheets and
spools of metal.
Some of these items
were trafficked to New
Castle, Pennsylvania, and
sold as scrap or were listed
on the Internet for sale, as
in the case of the diamond
plate sheets, the FBI stated.
The case is being prosecuted
by the U.S. attorney’s
office following a
joint investigation by Ohio
State Highway Patrol, Federal
Bureau of Investigation,
Toledo Police Department,
National Insurance
Criminal Bureau, and the
Ohio Bureau of Motor
Vehicles.

is offering a three-day
weekend full of winter fun

for local residents.
The activities for all

the city of Bowling Green.
