was available for comparison <strong>of</strong> the classifications<br />

<strong>of</strong> 27,082 deaths, or 86.6 per cent<br />

<strong>of</strong> the 31,275. For the relnainle, only one<br />

type <strong>of</strong> information was found: for 2,001,<br />

the death certificate only; and for 2,192<br />

deaths, other informnation only, tile latter<br />

being dleaths that were not registered or for<br />

which no certificates were found. Data from<br />

both sources <strong>of</strong> information were available<br />

for higher proportions <strong>of</strong> the deaths occurring<br />

in the postneonatal period (89.8 per<br />

cent) and at 1-4 years <strong>of</strong> age (87.3) than<br />

<strong>of</strong> neonatal deaths (82.6). Deaths in the<br />

neonatal age group comprised 35.9 per cent<br />

<strong>of</strong> the total included in this comlparative<br />

study <strong>of</strong> assignmcnts.<br />
