projects (Table 108). Though the numbers<br />

<strong>of</strong> deaths were small in three <strong>of</strong> these pro­<br />

jects, in one-Monterrey-there were 91<br />

deaths. In this project the death rate in­<br />

creased from 94.3 per 100,000 live births for<br />

first births to a rate <strong>of</strong> 258.4, or more than<br />

two and one half times greater, for births <strong>of</strong><br />

in El Salvador; here the death rate was high<br />

for mothers aged 30-34 years, and there was<br />

a slight decline in the oldest age group. Tile<br />

differences in patterns in the four projects<br />

with relatively low rates may be due to the<br />

small numbers.<br />

Data were also available for analysis <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>mortality</strong> from anomalies <strong>of</strong> the nervous<br />
