AMTRAK CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH<br />

Local events honor the contributions of African Americans<br />

WASHINGTON – <strong>Amtrak</strong> will honor the contributions of African Americans throughout<br />

all aspects of American life, including the development, construction, management and operation<br />

of railroads across the country, by hosting events nationwide in celebration of <strong>Black</strong> <strong>History</strong><br />

<strong>Month</strong>.<br />

A listing of some public events:<br />

New York Penn Station – On Feb. 17, 19, 21, 24, 26 and 28, New York Penn Station will<br />

host a series of cultural performances and vendors specializing in African American arts<br />

& crafts, jewelry and more.<br />

Harrisburg, Pa. Station – Celebrating the <strong>Amtrak</strong> Keystone Service as a community and<br />

regional partner, the station will feature a display celebrating the “Emancipation<br />

Proclamation commemoration and inauguration of our Heritage Trail” through the end of<br />

February.<br />

Philadelphia Station – The Philadelphia Station will host a <strong>Black</strong> <strong>History</strong> <strong>Month</strong><br />

Celebration with a vendor fair on Feb. 27 and with a variety of entertainment on Feb. 28.<br />

In addition, <strong>Amtrak</strong> is a co-sponsor of the African American Museum and the “Come See<br />

about Me – Supremes” exhibit.<br />

Boston Station – <strong>Amtrak</strong> will feature a celebration with art displays and other familyfriendly<br />

and educational activities on Feb. 21.<br />

Newark, N.J. – The Newark Museum has planned activities for <strong>Black</strong> <strong>History</strong> <strong>Month</strong> and<br />

features and an upcoming exhibit that opens on Feb. 27, “African Cosmos: Stellar Arts,”<br />

that <strong>Amtrak</strong> co-sponsors.<br />

Washington D.C. & New York – <strong>Amtrak</strong> has partnered with the Washington Wizards,<br />

Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks to honor local individuals who make a positive<br />

impact in their community with the <strong>Amtrak</strong> Pioneer Award later this month.<br />

Baltimore Station – On Feb. 21, <strong>Amtrak</strong> will host a <strong>Black</strong> <strong>History</strong> Celebration with a<br />

program, poetry reading and exhibitors from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.<br />
