AMTRAK CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Local events honor the contributions of African Americans
WASHINGTON – Amtrak will honor the contributions of African Americans throughout
all aspects of American life, including the development, construction, management and operation
of railroads across the country, by hosting events nationwide in celebration of Black History
Month.
A listing of some public events:
New York Penn Station – On Feb. 17, 19, 21, 24, 26 and 28, New York Penn Station will
host a series of cultural performances and vendors specializing in African American arts
& crafts, jewelry and more.
Harrisburg, Pa. Station – Celebrating the Amtrak Keystone Service as a community and
regional partner, the station will feature a display celebrating the “Emancipation
Proclamation commemoration and inauguration of our Heritage Trail” through the end of
February.
Philadelphia Station – The Philadelphia Station will host a Black History Month
Celebration with a vendor fair on Feb. 27 and with a variety of entertainment on Feb. 28.
In addition, Amtrak is a co-sponsor of the African American Museum and the “Come See
about Me – Supremes” exhibit.
Boston Station – Amtrak will feature a celebration with art displays and other familyfriendly
and educational activities on Feb. 21.
Newark, N.J. – The Newark Museum has planned activities for Black History Month and
features and an upcoming exhibit that opens on Feb. 27, “African Cosmos: Stellar Arts,”
that Amtrak co-sponsors.
Washington D.C. & New York – Amtrak has partnered with the Washington Wizards,
Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks to honor local individuals who make a positive
impact in their community with the Amtrak Pioneer Award later this month.
Baltimore Station – On Feb. 21, Amtrak will host a Black History Celebration with a
program, poetry reading and exhibitors from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
