Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Karen Fann Suffolk VA 23435 United States
We do not need tolls. Not like the money will be used to repair the roads they are charged on. This money is going to
do nothing but benefit those in VA Government and HURT the citizens of this state. Jobs are gone, gas is rising and
2/27/2012 now adding tolls??? Is our Government STUPID?
Jennifer Hudson Zuni VA 23898 United States
I travel these roads to work everyday. Its bad enough that gas prices are on the rise. I dont need to add tolls to the
2/27/2012 list.
Shanda Peay Virginia Beach VA 23464 United States 2/27/2012 DO NOT NEED ANYMORE MONEY COMING OUT OF PEOPLE POCKETS!!HAVE U SEEN THE GAS!
Erin Sylvia Suffolk VA 23434 United States
My husband and I haven't recieved cost of living raises in 4 or 5 years. Food, gas, utilities etc. are increasing in price,
where am I supposed to find extra money to pay for tolls on a road that I have to travel everyday to get to and from
work. I already pay state income taxes. Now the state is making it a financial burden for me to get to and from work
2/27/2012 everyday. How is that fair?
Miriam Tejeda Suffolk VA 23434 United States
I live in Suffolk, work in Norfolk. We have not seen a raise in many years. Not to mention that gas prices are going up
2/27/2012 again. Add a toll fee (back and forth); this will impact (in a negative way) my already tight budget.
Sara Krieger Virginia Beach VA 23453 United States 2/27/2012 Because it will kill Portsmouth economically!
Bradley Brown Portsmouth VA 23701 United States 2/27/2012 Taking classes at TCC, going to put a huge strain on my already tight budget.
ernest snead norfolk VA 23502 United States 2/27/2012 where do i get the money to pay the tolls if i don't make that much pay for working
Rhianon Growney Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
Tolls are just going to make travel through the tunnels more congested than they already are and they are
unwarranted. My husband has to commute daily and we are a single income family, so he will have to find another
job. Our family will not use either tunnel to give any money to this project if these tolls are in fact added to out
2/27/2012 tunnels.
Frank Sturgis Chesapeake VA 23320 United States
Cause i think its stupid to put a toll anywhere in Hampton roads considering we all ready have massive Backups
now!The person who thought of this ignorent idea is a Greedy fool! Instead of making tolls why dont they take a pay
2/27/2012 cut!
Ralph Edwards Norfolk VA 23508 United States
We have already payed for the tunnel and it is being given away now we are taxed to cross our tunnel this is a bigger
2/27/2012 tax hike than i have ever experanced
Chad Beichner Virginia Beach VA 23451 United States 2/27/2012 I have to cross that for work twice a day, it would cost close to a $1000.00 a year
Jason Wright Williamsburg VA 23188 United States
Public‐private partnerships constitute privatization of Public responsibility to private entities, which is a BAD thing.
Among other things, this method makes the project cost more overall (we pay for the operations + the company's
profit), it enlarges the share that individuals pay (e.g. a toll will cost you more than your share of a gas tax), it limits
access (e.g. many Hampton Roads residents cannot afford the proposed toll), it reduces quality (the company cuts
corners as it tries to increase the profit margin), and it reduces transparency (a company does not have to release
information, but VDOT does through FOIA). No one wants to talk about a tax hike, but it is needed to properly fund
2/27/2012 transportation improvements in the Commonwealth. Fight to end the tolls, and fight to end all privatization!!
Michael Dandrea Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 2/28/2012 I travel through the tunnel everyday. I shouldn't have to pay for a tunnel I never drive through!
Ken wurster Virginia Beach VA 23464 United States
Hampton Roads area is not a big money area. Wages are kept low, We only have one fortune 500 company that is
2/28/2012 Norfolk Southern. 20 dollars a week really . 80 bucks a month. 960 a year . WOW what a rip off.
kim kendzior Virginia Beach VA 23462 United States
I'm on a fixed income and can't make it now let alone additional expense added to driving through tunnels. Give it a
2/28/2012 rest, people can't afford tolls!
Kathleen Cooper Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
I use the Midtown & Downtown Tunnels everyday to and from work. Adding the tunnels would be a huge burden on
my monthly budget. With gas prices already going up, the state is asking me to pay tolls on top of that so that I can
get to work?! These tolls will be a major burden to Chesapeake and Portsmouth residents who depend on these
2/28/2012 tunnels everyday.
Brittney Horton Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
I can not afford the tolls, plus gas/mortgage/car note/insurance/utilities. it's an extra expense i don't want to add to
my budget. I am already living pay check to paycheck. I feel as though Portsmouth wants to either keep certain
2/28/2012 people in the city or keep certain people OUT!!!
