Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Bonnie Jones Norfolk VA 23509 United States
There are enough TAXES in our localities to PAY for the Tunnels & Bridges IN our AREA! Property Tax, Gas Tax, Food
Tax, Income Tax, Vehicle Registration, Just to name a few BIG ones ‐ We don't need TOLLS ‐ WE NEED BETTER
2/27/2012 MANAGEMENT OF FINANCES!!
Yazmin leon portsmouth VA 23707 United States
I own a house in Portsmouth and work at the naval base. Yes, I have steady job but that doesn't mean I have the
extra money to be paying for a toll twice a day at "peak hours" to top it off. I have a family and although $1.50 may
2/27/2012 not seem like much to some people that makes a big difference to me.
Harley Martin Norfolk VA 23513 United States
I don't use the tunnels often enough for EZ‐Pass to be cost effective, nor do I see any reason to then be forced to pay
ten dollars a 2 way trip when I must go to the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. My only option left is to then double
(possibly triple with others doing the same thing) the time it takes to get there by going around. The traffic has to go
2/27/2012 somewhere, and the other options are just going to get even more backed up than they already are.
robert church Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
I am in staunch opposition to the tolls that will be levied on people that transit either daily or recreationally through
the downtown and midtown tunnels. This will ostracize Portsmouth and any gentrification of Portsmouth will slow
or come to a complete stop. Politicians need to be held in check and start being responsible for the monies they are
2/27/2012 already taking from the taxpayers.
LaReese Harrison Suffolk VA 23435 United States 2/27/2012 I live in Suffolk work in Norfolk. Enough said.
Jerry Schmidt Portsmouth VA 230703 United States
I think everyone should boycott the downtown tunnel for one month if possible. This is the most insane idea VA
officials have every come up with. I live in Portsmouth & work in VA beach, this is another $1,000 out of my pocket
for my one income family. Going over the High rise bridge will cost me $400 more a year in gas but add 5K miles to
2/27/2012 my car. I can't win. When was the last me you saw a toll in Northern VA. I think there's only one in Richmond.
Anthony Sanseverino Va Bch VA 23462 United States
Now we get to pay to go to work!! Yay!! And with gas prices going up too........they picked a great time to hurt the
2/27/2012 citizens of Hampton Roads
Linda Stevenson Suffolk VA 23434 United States
Amount of funds it will cost for me to go back and forth to work each year. According to the calculator provided, I will
2/27/2012 be paying at 1656 per year
Dolores Moore Chesapeake VA 23323 United States
The fairest, most reasonable way to address the transportation needs in VA is by increasing the gas tax. I don't know
2/27/2012 of anything else in this country that has not had an increase in 25 years except VA's gas tax.
Dustin Hirmer norfolk VA 23513 United States 2/27/2012 they should have thought about a budget long before now and not try to make us pay for it
Margaret Rankin norfolk VA 23510 United States
We pay enough taxes to maintain the road ways.. VA needs to get smarter about the way they do business and stop
2/27/2012 looking to the locals and keep squeezing us for everything we have. No to tolls!!!!!!
Kimberly Tucker Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 2/27/2012 Toll is not affordable for most citizens. Toll is going to cause a tremendous hardship.
Lytrece Clark Chesapeake VA 23323 United States
With gas prices scheduled to increase and the addition of tolls, these added expenses will hurt local businesses and
2/27/2012 personal budgets.
Jillian Rubino Norfolk VA 23517 United States
It is frustrating that, living in Norfolk, I will basically owe a toll to get most places, including work. My employer, a
large area hospital, cannot afford a suitable raise, much less a cost of living wage adjustment, so this toll seems to me
2/27/2012 to be quite unfair in a time when we are ALL struggling with money.
Alvin Swilley Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
I go to and from Norfolk from Portsmouth seven days a week for work. Sometimes, I make this trip more than once a
2/27/2012 day. Increasing gasoline tax by pennies would have been the better option.
John McKinzie Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
Live in Portsmouth, work in Virginia Beach. This in all likely‐hood will cause me to leave the region and find a new job.
This is a horribly in efficient solution. Decreasing efficiency of current infrastructure to pay for future is very stupid. I
2/27/2012 am also in graduate at ODU and have to travel through the midtown tunnel several times a week.
Dennis Powell Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
We are already taxed to the teeth!!! This project has been forced down our thoat without ANY input from the
2/27/2012 community!!!
Richard Harden Virginia Beach VA 23456‐5414 United States
Once tolls are in place all of the trucks currently running between the different terminals are going to re‐route to 66‐
2/27/2012 664 and cause even more traffic tie ups. Second cannot afford almost $4k out of my pocket.
