Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
I live in va beach and work in portsmouth it will cost me over $4000 a year in tolls just to get to and from work! Not
michael fitzgerald virginia beach VA 23451 United States 2/19/2012 to mention the effect it will have on tourism and the seasonal income the hampton roads relies on greatly
Nancy Craft Virginia Beach VA 23456 United States 2/19/2012 We need more public transportation, not tolls on the roads that are 100% supported by the government taxes.
Gerald Soucheray Suffolk VA 23434 United States
My Wife and I live in Suffolk, and unfortunately take separate cars. I can see charging a toll"IF" it will relieve the
congestion. 50 cents each way during the weekday, and 1.00 each way during the weekend and holidays. But I think
they should add more light rail to the bigger Military Bases. Look how traffic is on a Federal Holiday compared to a
2/19/2012 normal work day.
Terri Hall San Antonio TX 78070 United States
Texans stand with you! FYI ‐ we need your help to keep CONGRESS from imposing tolls on existing FREE lanes in ALL
50 states! Call your members of Congress at (202) 224‐3121 and ask them to support the Canseco & Hutchison
Amendments to ban tolls on existing freeways. The federal highway bill also grants blanket authority for these public
private partnership toll projects. Read more here: http://www.texasturf.org
mike ringer portsmouth VA 23703 United States 2/19/2012 I have to travel the tunnels everyday for work.
Jamie Kaufman Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
It will no longer be cheaper to live in Portsmouth, the toll money will not improve daily tunnel congestion or the
quality of life living in Portsmouth, and therefore, as a renter, there will be no reason for me to stay in Portsmouth or
2/19/2012 ever visit Portsmouth again.
Bradford Cherry Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
All should pay taxes that are VA citizens. They all get benefits from our roads. A gas tax is best manner to cover this
2/19/2012 cost.
teresa myers massillom OH 44647 United States 2/20/2012 lived there for over 43 yrs. & i plan on moving bac.....
Ryan Ryckman Norfolk VA 23503 United States 2/20/2012 I'm not against user fees to raise tax revenue b/c they seem most fair, but NOT during the middle of a recession
William Inman, Jr. Portsmouth VA 23701 United States 2/20/2012 I hope to reduce the cost of living in Virginia. Money saved is money earned!
mary hawkes portsmouth VA 23707 United States 2/21/2012 I work at Sentara hospital and I cannot afford to pay a toll 2x aday for 5 days a week...
Catherine Giagnacovo Norfolk VA 23503 United States
This should have been pennies in a state wide gas tax. Roads, like public safety and schools are every citizen"s
2/21/2012 responsibility. Hampton Roads is not the winner in this deal.
tileda brown norfolk VA 23517 United States 2/21/2012 i live on a fixed income. gas is almost 5 dollars i can not afford a toll.
Doroth Jenson Suffolk VA 23435 United States 2/21/2012 I still think we should put this tax on gasoline as this would affect everyone in the state not just Hampton Roads
Evelyn Thomas Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
As an area Realtor, I feel that this toll is a detriment to our already depressed Real Estate Market. A lot of buyers who
work in Norfolk or Virginia Beach now buy in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, & Suffolk for more affordable housing. We
already have the mechanism in place with the gas tax, which could be increased if we need more money for roads.
That would not require all the new infrastructure required to collect tolls, as well as the other expenses in
2/21/2012 manpower, etc.
Ann Kirk Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
This will divide further an area which is already divided into many cities and counties. It will leave the least well to
do with the most burden. The gas tax is the way to go, so General Assembly, get ;your act together and do what is
2/21/2012 right not what is easiest.
Sara Sickinger Norfolk VA 23505 United States
People are having a tough enough time as it is keeping gas in their cars and food on their tables to worry about
2/21/2012 having to pay tolls to get to work and back everyday.
Sandi Edmondson Norfolk VA 23503 United States
I travel through the midtown tunnel twice every workday. I am concerned that the additional 20 dollars a week,
added to the already increasing gas prices PLUS no increase in my salary in 5 YEARS will cause an economic stress on
2/22/2012 my family.
By the time state employees pay for their own retirement, the increase in health insurance, the tolls back and forth,
plus the increased gas expense we won't need a budget because there will be so little money to budget !!!! one
other thought ‐ what happens to the tourist industry when they get back home and get their bills for travel in our
area????
