Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Richmond signing that contract was "back room politics" that in a word is:pathetic. Every vehicle that utilizes the
roads throughout the state should be chipping into the pot. A rise in the gas tax should be put in place period as well
Jim Fisher Norfolk VA 23513 United States 2/16/2012 as a lock box for those funds should be made to ensure all proceeds are for roads only.
Rabah Numan Norfolk VA 23504 United States
I have to drive my fiance to and from work everyday in Portsmouth using downtown tunnel or the midtown tunnel
2/16/2012 and the price of gas is still raising now they want to charge to use the local tunnels and highways. I don't think so.
Jo‐Ann Patterson Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
I, too, live in Portsmouth and am working in Norfolk in the healthcare industry. Already, I watch my budget, use
coupons, only purchase items on sale/clearance, along with other ways to cut cost and save money just to be sure
that I can pay the minimum bills. We have the issue with gas continually increasing and now we are facing a possible
toll of $2 each direction, which would cost me $20 per week just to travel to and from work, not to mention traveling
to school activities for my children, my son's tolls to travel back and forth to college. I could go on and on but feel
that this in its self is almost a waste of my time as I don't see where our elected officials are really listening nor
helping but only time will tell. Thanks Mr. Cairns for giving us a way to get our opinions out there. Respectfully, Jo‐
James Owens Norfolk VA 23518 United States 2/16/2012 The tolls will dampen economic growth in Hampton Roads.
barbara henry portsmouth VA 23703 United States 2/16/2012 all my doctors are in Norfolk. I'm ona fixed income & this will create a real hardship.
eric henry portsmouth VA 23703 United States
I do voicework at a studio in Va Beach . I audition sometimes 5 or 6 times a week ,however I only get paid if I am
selected to do the spot. Paying tolls without a guarantee of receiving compensation for my work will incease my
2/17/2012 expenses to where I may have to give up work that I love.
Mark Fleming Portsmouth VA 23704 United States 2/17/2012 I think this will hurt businesses in Portsmouth. I am a busness owner and I disagree with this !!!
elizabeth masten norfolk VA 23508 United States 2/17/2012 Raise gasoline taxes, you stupid Republicans!!!!!
Michelle Blake Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
I live in Portsmouth and I can afford to pay the tolls. However, I am very concerned for those that cannot afford to
pay, having been in that same position myself for many years. The estimated $1,000 a year cost is devastating to
singles and families that can already ill afford to pay for cars, insurance and the abhorrent cost of gasoline. For
several years now citizens have been telling our elected officials thru newspaper letters to the editor that we do not
want tolls but will willingly pay an increased gas tax, which is a smaller individual impact and a greater source of
revenue for VA roads projects. SOMEBODY PLEASE TAKE A COPY OF THIS EMAIL AND READ IT TO OUR LEGISLATORS
SINCE THEY EVIDENTLY CAN'T READ.
2/17/2012 Once we get the gas tax, the next bit of legislation they need to work on is for TERM LIMITS!
Taletha Harris Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
No COL increases in years and jobs aren't going to give us raises to help cover it. VA needs to find another way. PLUS
2/17/2012 it will cripple families and businesses.
charles nixon portsmouth VA 23704 United States
Why do we have to pay for something that is not started. What will it cost to drive through five years from this date
2/17/2012 (2‐ 16 2012 ) . With the cost of gas use a tax method from the sale of that product
Susanne McCoy Chesapeake VA 23320 United States
Is this really the best way to bring in revenue? More fees on the private citizen...c'mon people! Do you deserve to
2/17/2012 be in office? Use the sense that got you into office.
Joseph Guardino Norfolk VA 23507 United States
There are other ways we can equitably share the cost of infrastructure in Hampton Roads, and not at the cost of
2/17/2012 those who can least afford a toll between the Southside's two major metropolitan areas.
James R. Terrell Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
Any way you cut it tolls are still a tax. The politicians have failed in their sticking their heads in the sand and
pretending that they have not increased taxes. This burden should be shared by the whole states just as the taxes we
pay provide them with roads. Also I grew up in an era where there was tolls on everything and intercity travel was at
a minimum. With intercity cooperation being promoted this seems to only drive a wedge between the cities of
2/17/2012 Hampton Roads.
carol burchfield‐griffith va beach VA 23464 United States 2/17/2012 I am in support of blocking the tolls!
Eleanor Shumaker Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
Worried about the devastating economic impact on our town of Portsmouth. Worried about expense of travel to
2/17/2012 work in VA Beach. Seems so unfair.
Angela DeWalt Portsmouht VA 23701 United States 2/17/2012 I oppose of the tolls.
