Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
This will cost me at least $36.00 a week in tolls for me to do my non‐pay VOLUNTEER work in Portsmouth! Change
Ron Hyman Virginia Beach VA 23455 United States 2/10/2012 the laws in Richmond and divert some lottery money for this. Also, increase the gas taxes so everyone pays fairly.
Tom Reel Norfolk VA 23502 United States
I am signing because I don't want to be subjected to having to pay a FOR PROFIT company for the right to use the
roads and tunnels, lining somebody's pockets with my money. I would not oppose paying a few pennies more per
gallon of gas (statewide!) ‐ money that would stay in Virginia for our common purposes. The complete abdication of
responsible leadership by the anti‐tax (no matter what!) crowd has brought us to this point. If you voted for these
legislators, I hope you understand that while we support worthwhile projects across the state with our taxes (as we
should!), we will be getting no help from the rest of the Commonwealth in funding our local highway problems. And
you'll begin paying for improvements years before you see them! I guess we have the political representation ‐ and
2/10/2012 the consequences ‐ we deserve! Ugh.
Sarita Lee Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
I will not be able to afford to use the tunnel if the tolls are added. I am a single mother who attends a university and
2/10/2012 I am employed full time. I use the tunnels a least 10 times a week
Michael Buxotn Portsmouth VA 23701 United States 2/10/2012 Do not unfairly toll me. Either all roads or none
Satoko Rickenbacker suffolk VA 23435 United States
bring children, pick up children, goto work, come back from work,,,,how many times I have to pay toll a day??? I
2/10/2012 don't make much money!!! this is ridiculous!!!!!
Able Computer Services GeekChesapeake VA 23323 United States 2/10/2012 With our business, our techs use these tunnels almost daily ‐ just another debt to a small business.
Carol Berg Newport News VA 23602 United States
Tolls will place an undue hardship on many members of our community, particularly our military families who
navigate the tunnel daily to defend our freedom. It also affects the tourism trade between the Peninsula and
Southside as many will think twice before paying the toll. It we must have a toll, make it minimal and make it capped
2/10/2012 for at least 5 years. Make it affordable for people to live, work and travel here in Hampton Roads!
Lynnette Fitch Brash Virginia Beach VA 23464 United States
This would be an unacceptable hardship for so many people who already live in areas which require them to go this
route for work, school, medical care, etc. It also demonstrates a complete lack of fairness and parity in terms of how
projects in NOVA and projects in Tidewater are handled. Why should we pay tolls for improvements when NOVA
does not? Why should money raised off of us be spent in OTHER parts of the state when none from those places
comes back to us? It's patently inequitable, and our area deserves better ‐ Tidewater is home to several major
military bases, several important universities and colleges, the world's largest resort city (Va Beach), historic
2/10/2012 landmarks, etc.
Jennifer James Suffolk VA 23434 United States
I commute from Suffolk to Norfolk every day for work. In this tough economy, paying $80 a month for toll will have a
2/10/2012 great impact on my finances. Let's raise the gas tax and have everyone pay for road improvements.
Castle Parker Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
I am a concerned commuter between Portsmouth and Norfolk. I don't like the way the states funding the project. I
2/10/2012 object to the high cost of tolls for commuters.
Glenda Woodington Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
This area was taxed with tolls when the tunnel was built and those who were young then are now on fixed incomes.
The rest of the state gets road improvements without tolls. Small businesses will suffer from the added cost of tolls
as they move from city to city. The small businessman is struggling enough under the current administration in
2/10/2012 Washington. Why add to that?
Charles Dunlap Smithfield VA 23430 United States
Our founding fathers envisioned a small government designed to meet basic needs, not one that is supposed to take
care of us from cradle to grave. Reduce the size and scope of government at all levels so we have money for the
2/10/2012 necessities.
Michael Ulanich Chesapeake VA 23322 United States 2/10/2012 (1) VA DOT projects should be funded with fuel taxes. (2) Southeastern VA's economy will be damaged by tolls.
Jackie Little Portsmouth VA 23709 United States
We already pay too many taxes now, so why would they charge us more money to travel through the tunnel. The tax
money we pay now should be more than enough to pay for this project. Our tax money is not being utilized now
because our roads are all messed up and needs repairing, so I really don't understand where our funds are being
2/10/2012 spent.
