Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Amanda Outcalt Norfolk VA 23507 United States
This will be a huge burden for people who travel through tunnels for work, and it will also isolate different parts of
2/10/2012 Hampton Roads like Portsmouth.
Wayne Mills Jr Smithfield VA 23430 United States
I think the rest of the state should help pay for the tunnel. We have helped pay for major improvements in Norther
VA plus we helped pay for the loop around the west side of Richmond. If a toll must be paid it should not exceed
2/10/2012 $1.00.
Virginia Harvey Norfolk VA 23507 United States 2/10/2012 Just raise the gas tax! Can we have a petition for that?
David Hostler Suffolk VA 23432 United States 2/10/2012 This is nothing more than another tax for the working man
bob strother portsmouth VA 23702‐2205 United States
No tolls or higher taxes were needed for the new fly‐overs and interstates in Northern Va. Where the average
2/10/2012 income is higher. Why not share the wealth of the Commonwealth in Hampton Roads.
James Summerlin Norfolk VA 23502 United States
Something with such long lasting effects should have been put to the people in the form of a vote. I suggest we use
2/10/2012 our votes at the next election to show how we feel about being left out of this decision.
Wayne Brown Norfolk VA 23503 United States
Last week VA sold bonds at 1 3/8 per cent for transportation projects in Northern Va. The Governor wants Hampton
Roads to pay foreign investors 13.5 per cent for this project. What an awful deal!!! It must be stopped!! Where are
2/10/2012 our local General Assembly members? Is Sen. Lucas the only one with backbone?
James Kofa Virginia Beach VA 23453 United States
Tolls are not the way to go in a bad economy.State Bonds at the current extremely low interest rate would be a start.
2/10/2012 Plus this is a bad deal where a private company gets rich and public is stuck paying rising tolls for decades.
Jan Gripp Virginia Beach VA 23454 United States
I remember when there were tolls on all the tunnels...it really divided the hampton roads area...besides Portsmouth
2/10/2012 doesn't need any more reasons not to go there.
michael levinsky va beach VA 23452 United States 2/10/2012 Tolls slow traffic and are a costly way to collect money!!1
The need for an additional tunnel and tunnel repairs were known long before the decission to build the light rail was
Ray Sperle Virginia Beach VA 23452 United States 2/10/2012 made. Our governing officials are supposed to be looking out for our best interests, not overlooking the
Janet R johnson Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 2/10/2012 My husband has had 2 strokes'bleeds on the brain. We have to go to Norfolk hospitals.
Cheryl Brewster Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
To express my outrage at the high cost of the new tolls for the tunnels. Our representatives must be competent
2/10/2012 enough to find a reasonable way to control our traffic issues or they're not competent enough to serve.
Dennis Stewart Suffolk VA 23434 United States 2/10/2012 can not afford the price with gas & everything else going up.
katherine moriarty chesapeake VA 23321 United States
Undue burden on the tunnel users, when the entire region (not to mention the state) benefits from the routes. High
tolls would be crippling to students and the military. Too costly to collect the tolls with transponders and license
2/10/2012 plate photos. Good luck getting payment from those without transponders.
Everyone who travels these routes or receives goods transported on them needs to help pay for improvements.
These costs should be included in the gas tax.
Wynette McPherson Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 2/10/2012
Monee Bengtson Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
I commute from Portsmouth to Virginia Beach every day and have been for going on 8 years. I do not want to add
2/10/2012 this expense to my commute everyday. I want to keep my job.
Betty Barnes Suffolk VA 23434 United States 2/10/2012 Work in Norfolk and for business reasons I would rather have a higher gas tax for the state of Virginia.
William White Smithfield VA 23430 United States
Road funding should not be left to private industry. In attention to being a full time ODU student I work for a private
surveying firm full‐time. I have seen first hand how private companies will cut corners on their product to save a few
2/10/2012 pennies. I can only image what corners this "public‐private partnership" will want to cut with our roads.
Robert Fortson Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
1 ‐ The funds are going to be used for others that do not use the tunnel.
2/10/2012 2‐ There are other projects funded without tools which treats Portsmouth unfairly.
Garland Washington Norfolk VA 23513 United States
I simply can not afford to pay a toll, because I can barley afford to take care of family. $1,000 IS LIKE A MILLION
2/10/2012 DOLLARS TO ME.
Scott Cramer Norfolk VA 23507 United States
It's kind of obscene that we have to turn our infrastructure over to a for profit concern to build new projects when
2/10/2012 we haven't raised the gas tax one penny in 26 years!!!!!
