Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Paul Piechowski Virginia Beach VA 23464 United States
these roads and tunnels are the property of the people by virtue of our federal tax money and fuel taxes have paid
for them. The federal government help build these roads and tunnels and should help out more as out military
services uses these roads also. My worry will be what will happen in a major weather event? makes me shudder. The
Chesapeake bay tunnel/bridge was built by private dollars completely so its there baby, the downtown and midtown
tunnel were not. The State should not walk away from there responsibilities like they did with the rest stop closures
awhile ago. I hate to say it but raise the gas tax ten cents and get it over with. Were about to pay more if these toll's
2/9/2012 go in and then food prices will rise along with all products that come by truck. Think about that folks.
To all "elected" representatives in Hampton Roads and Richmond‐‐step up to the plate and represent your citizens‐‐
do the job you were elected to do! This effort is an investment in our "state", not just HR. I'm sure we in Hampton
Roads have paid taxes that have improved road systems elsewhere in the state. An increase in tax for all Virginia
residents to contribute to the improvement of the road systems, tunnels and bridges in the Hampton Roads area is
the most fair way to get it done. Hampton Roads is flooded every year with travelers coming from Northern VA and
across the country to vacation here, as well as the NC Outer Banks and Nags Head. This heavy financial burden
should not fall solely on local residents when so many must travel back and forth between Norfolk, VA Beach,
Portsmouth, Suffolk and Chesapeake for medical needs, work, school, or just to visit family. There are few options
available without using the tunnels and bridges to get around in HR, not to mention the massive increase in traffic
2/9/2012 jams it would most likely create.
will be using the midtown tunnel to do daycare every day and the tolls would make it difficult to make it worthwhile
2/9/2012 to go back and forth
The feds should be funding the bulk of cost as they are the ones that benefit the most. The state should,ve put out a
bond or been able to borrow money from the feds at same rates the banks get. Those that made the deal should be
2/9/2012 fired. Something stinks about the contract.
I'm retired, on a fixed income, and live in Norfolk, but my church group and volunteer work are in Portsmouth. My
only alternative to paying tolls would be to drive 30 miles out of my way — which would mean more money for gas
2/9/2012 and more pollution. Yeah, that makes sense. Who thought this was a good idea?
Martin Sullivan Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
The whole public/private is corporate welfare at its worst. McDonnell is a whore to the Right, a pimp to business and
2/9/2012 the rapist of the rest of us.
Mary Torrez woodbridge VA 22192 United States 2/9/2012 I go to hampton roads to visit family often, and these tunnels do NOT need tolls.
Craig Robertson Chesapeake VA 23320 United States 2/9/2012 Stupid idea!!!
I am retired, so I have no horse in this race, but I do think these tolls will put an unreasonalbe burden on the working
2/9/2012 stiff. I also think some politicians should be strung up for letting the situation get to this point!
Yulia Bronipolskaya Chesapeake VA 23320 United States 2/9/2012 It will also affect the tourism in this area
Edwin O'Connor Virginia Beach VA 23462 United States
I travel to Suffolk and Portsmouth very frequently and I am a retired vet on a limited income and think there are
2/9/2012 better ways than placing a toll on the tunnels!
Julia Walters Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
I have been commuting to Norfolk via the Midtown tunnel since 1987. The backups at the Midtown tunnel were
actually worst in the late 80's and early 90's than they are now. The tunnel is only busy at rush hour ‐ period! This
expansion project is totally unnecessary, in my opinion. If it's something that has to happen, raise the gas tax by a
2/9/2012 few pennies. With the daily fluctuation in gas prices, it will hardly be noticed.
Steven Herborn Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 2/9/2012 Pay is frozen, retirement disappearing, and these assets are already bought & paid for. Why pay for them again?
