Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Sandra Poole Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
A simple gas tax increase has been the answer for years. Our reps in Richmond have been deaf, blind and
2/9/2012 irresponsible.
Larry Schudel Virginia Beach VA 23454‐6948 United States
INCREASE THE GAS TAX!!!!! I want big government decreased but the road system is not government. You can not
2/9/2012 maintain & build roads without paying for it.
John Leuis Norfolk VA 23503 United States 2/9/2012 This area should not be known as TOLLWATER, VIRGINIA.
Melvin Boone chesapeake VA 23320 United States
VODT's current plan would only adversely affect the Tidewater Area. VDOT should not have sole power to force the
cizens of Virginia to pay tolls or hidden taxes any
where. The Governor should be up front and
2/9/2012 apply taxes where needed
Doris Ballard‐Spruill Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
Being a state employer that has not had a raise in over 5 years, it is already very difficult to make ends meet. This toll
2/9/2012 would only make it more difficult.
Lori Young Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
One of the most worrisome aspects is what tolls WILL DO to the local economy and citizens. The idea of paying these
2/9/2012 toll fees is OUTRAGIOUS. What nerve!
nancy gray norfolk VA 23505 United States
I simply cannot afford to pay over $1000 to get back and forth to work on top of the gas prices and vehicle taxes and
up keep. To drive around to the MMBT or thru Chesapeake will cost just as much as the tolls! At least when the
2/9/2012 Expressway had a toll it did NOT cost an arm and leg to go around it !
Lisa Schiferl Yorktown VA 23693 United States
I take my daughter back and forth for Dr. appointments (she sees a specialist) and it's bad enough I have to drive
2/9/2012 across the water to do so. To have to pay to pay extra to be able to have her seen is crazy!!
Maury Cooke, Jr. Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
A small percentage of the population should not have to pay an extremely regressive tax for facilities that benefit the
entire state in many ways, including the goods that are shipped through our ports to our state and across the country
2/9/2012 , tourism etc.
Cynthia Barnes Portsmouth VA 23704‐1721 United States 2/9/2012 Opposed to tolls.
Francine Chase Windsor VA 23487 United States
I am single and live in Windsor and work in Norfolk. A toll at either tunnel would already put a strain on my tight
2/9/2012 butdget.
ALTON OWEN VIRGINIA BEACH VA 23462 United States
I've been living here 40 years, and have used downtown tunnel about 5 times, while using midtown frequently. I
2/9/2012 object to paying tolls for something I hardly ever use.
albert greene suffolk VA 23435 United States
taxation without representation on a certain area of people in the state and giving away our infrastructue to a
2/9/2012 private company for 50 years
Matt Pittard Suffolk VA 23437 United States 2/9/2012 guess I will spend more in gas to take High‐rise Bridge
Beth Robinson Virginia Beach VA 23455 United States
The toll is cost prohibitive to most people driving through the tunnel. There must be other options, such as a gas tax
2/9/2012 hike?
Deborah White Chesapeake VA 23322 United States
I think the whole thing is outrageous. It makes so much more sense to just raise the gas tax a few cents ‐ no one will
2/9/2012 miss it, it will be spread evenly, and you are not enriching the toll company in the meantime.
Susan Kiemer Chesapeake VA 23322 United States 2/9/2012 Live in Hampton Roads‐these are additional expenses.
Timothy Miller Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
My wife and I have decided we will spend the $2000.00 (both live in Portsmouth and work in Norfolk) in gas and time
2/9/2012 by clogging up alternative routes. Misery loves company you know.
Janet Bing Norfolk VA 23508 United States 2/9/2012 This is a state issue and not a local issue.
Donna Blonts Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
The tolls are an unfair tax on Hampton Roads. Our tax money always goes to Richmond or Northern Va. to improve
2/9/2012 THEIR roads and bridges and nothing stays down here. Find another way to pay for our needs.
Patty Marek Suffolk VA 23435 United States 2/9/2012 The cost to an individual in this economy is exorbitant!! It should be reconsidered or revoked.
Michael Broadhurst Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
We have been working for decades to make Tidewater/Hampton Roads one community. These proposed tolls will
only serve to isolate communities from each other. Tolls are a devastatingly bad idea. A state‐wide gas tax makes so
2/9/2012 much more sense.
Tracy Molo Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
I travel from Portsmouth to Norfolk every day for work as does my husband and I think that putting a toll on the
tunnels is a way of segragating Portsmouth and Norfolk. I do not think it is fair that we have to pay tolls on a road
2/9/2012 that tax payers paid for in the first place.
