Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Nita Eason Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
My doctor is in Norfold. My grandchildren are at Gov's School in Norfolk & require picking them up. Gas taxes should
2/8/2012 be paying for this tunnel.
KIM fELLIO Chesapeake VA 23323 United States 2/8/2012 Should not have to pay to go to a tunnel!
Cathy Fanslau Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 2/8/2012 can't afford tolls
Paul Koehl VA Beach VA 23464 United States
Tolls will divid Hampton Roads Cities and business. It is unfair to the city of Portsmouth. State tax on gas is much
2/8/2012 better if it gose to these projects. This is not well though out no real leader ship!
Neal Windley Norfolk VA 23502 United States 2/8/2012 I think there are better ways to raise funding for transportation improvements than tolls.
George Denice Va. Beach VA 23462 United States
The tolls are way to high. They should not go into effect until the projects are completed. High tolls will hurt
2/8/2012 businesses and comuters on both sides of the river. Increase the gas tax instead and index the gas tax to inflation.
Cameron Potter Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
a tax increase is much better way to build & maintain roads. This current proposal is the most crazy thing I have
2/8/2012 heard< Who or what will garuantee you 13.5 % return on your investment for 54 years.
Barbara Brown Virginia Beach VA 23455 United States
These tolls are going to financially ruin this area. Portsmouth is going to take the brunt of the adverse economic
consequences of these tolls. But, you get what you vote for. In order to reinstate some common sense in our
General Assembly, don't vote for those who don't know how to compromise and who refuse to be courageous. Most
of the citizens of southside Hampton Roads have indicated that they are not adverse to a small increase in the gas
2/8/2012 tax. We need legislators who have a backbone and listen to their constituents instead of their party.
Jason Solis Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
I believe the project needs to be paid for somewhere. Putting it in a tax is much better than a toll. Save the money on
2/8/2012 the technology that will need to be implemented, put it in a tax for all Hampton Roads cities.
mark barrineau norfolk VA 23518 United States
The addition of these tolls will increase considerably my cost of doing business. It will take money away from me and
2/8/2012 my family and influence the way I vote.
Heather Hollowell Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
Tolls will have a significant negative impact on our local economies ‐‐ particularly in the small town of Portsmouth.
We will practically be held hostage in our town, with few non‐tolled ways out of town. There most be less punishing
2/8/2012 ways to raise funds.
Liza Weber Chesapeake VA 23320 United States
With rising gas prices and little hope for alternative fuels at this point in time ( without investing 30k in a hybrid car),
2/8/2012 tolls will make transportation rough on all of us. please reconsider!
Donald Goldberg Suffolk VA 23434 United States 2/8/2012 gas tax is the proper way to go. The program was set up years ago.
Helen Lee Suffolk VA 23432 United States
We should not be paying tolls when the folks in Northern Virginia did not have to pay tolls for the massive road
2/8/2012 projects in that area.
Carissa Kassis chesapeake VA 23320 United States
I am signing because I dont find it fair that everyone has to fork over more money. Its going to cause more traffice as
2/8/2012 people veer around it and why cant hampton roads pay for it? why do we have to help pay for it?
Vinton Feanny Portsmouth VA 23703 United States 2/8/2012 Adding an additional $60 ‐ 100 per month in expenses is not an option for me.
Michael Anderson Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
I was born and raised here in Hampton Roads. I left when I was 18 and joined the Military. I returned home after
serving more than twenty years to the lottery. I was told that the lottery was brought here for theschools and roads.
2/8/2012 What happened to that concept?
Margie Smith Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
My husband and I travel to and from the doctors and hospitals. We are on limited incomes and it would cut into our
retirement drastically. We have to pay enough for the gas to get there. It could be life threatening to some of us on
2/8/2012 this side of the water.
diana davey chesapeake VA 23321 United States
I have to use the tunnels on occasion and it's not right when the only other alternative takes me miles out of the way
2/8/2012 causing me to use more gas and therefore do more harm to the environment.
Charles Cutchin Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
I am signing this petition because it is unfair to place tolls on our roads, when there are no tolls in northern virginia
(concrete jungle with no tolls). If you place tolls, then, tourist and locals will be adversely affected by this high cost of
2/8/2012 travel in our area. If northern virginia does not have tolls, then maybe they should.
Harley Barker Gloucester VA 23061 United States 2/8/2012 Putting tolls on the roads and taxing the people more is not the solution to your problems...
