Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Corey Schmidt Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
Besides this being a tax on the working class and striking a death blow to local busniness, another reason I oppose
this project as it stands is the blatant oversight of not including The Tide. We just spent hundreds of millions of
dollars last year (over $100,000,000.00 mismanaged) on building the infrastructure for a lite rail system. Now our
leaders have decided that we the people will pay $1.3 billion of a $2.1 billion project that does not incorporate last
years investments. Without any mention of including The Tide in this project, I have serious doubts that this project
is to help the citizens of Hampton Roads and more about fulfilling political agenda. This kind of short sighted
planning makes me question the competence of our elected officials. If they want a tunnel so bad, then they should
2/8/2012 take a pay cut for the team. I do not want to pay tolls for the rest of my life.
Brenda Tokarz Virginia Beach VA 23471 United States
Our State and Federal Taxes are taken out of us each and every pay day to cover many of these costs, if I have to
tighten my budget and shuffle my bills around to make ends meet.... Then so can the government agencies that hit
2/8/2012 me up for all these taxes!
jeremy james suffolk v VA 23435 United States 2/8/2012 I work at the Norfolk Naval base and will have to pay a toll everyday to get back and forth to work.
George Drake Portsmouth VA 23701 United States 2/8/2012 $1000 a year to go back and forth to work? Who idea was this again?
Rebecca Swift Norfolk VA 23505 United States
the hampton roads area doesnt need tolls, it will cause that much more of a problem for everyone, traffic is crazy
enough around here, adding tolls will make it that much worse..plus thats a lot of money for people who will have to
2/8/2012 commute thru those tolls on a daily basis, money they may not have to spare...
Bill & Pat Fitzgerald Virginia Beach VA 23451 United States
Our politicians should have put a gas tax on long ago to pay for the much needed second tunnel and road
2/8/2012 improvements. These tolls will hurt a lot of people.
Henry E. Butler III M.D. Portsmouth VA 23704 United States 2/8/2012 This is a regressive tax.
Larry Lesniewicz Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 2/8/2012 Take the money the state spend in northern Va. and spend it here.
Joe Cook Norfolk VA 23508 United States
Highways and roadways benefit everyone and should be funded by a broad based tax like an increase in the gas tax.
The roads and tunnels belong to us, and we must not allow right wing Republicans to sell them to the highest bidder
2/8/2012 for campaign contributions to further their stranglehold on forcing a right wing agenda down our throats.
Sally Monds Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
My husband works at Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk and the tolls will greatly reduce our
income. Are they going to have any help for the many hospital workers that go thur the tunnels freguently for work?
Also, when there is a federal holiday there is very little traffic in the tunnels. Where is the federal money for a new
2/8/2012 tunnel?
Millie Krein Virginia Beach VA 23454 United States
cost of living continues to go up, we travel these roads every day. We don't need to add another expense when no
2/8/2012 on is getting raises to compensate for eveyday living increased expenses.
Robert Solomon Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
This toll is retarded. Far less expensive and less intrusive to raise gas tax. Will never vote for a Republican for the rest
2/8/2012 of my life for any reason, no matter who it is.
Robert Martinez Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
I remember when the tolls were dropped years ago specifically to bring the region together economically. This has
happened and very successfully, now we are going to watch this be undone? NO! Find another way. Raise sales tax
2/8/2012 by a penny, etc.
Susanne DiCarlo Virginia Beach VA 23456 United States 2/8/2012 no tolls, raise the gas tax!!!!!
Erin Bracy Portsmouth VA 23702 United States 2/8/2012 Will totally impact the city of Portsmouth and heavily affect regionalism
Ricky Cave Norfolk VA 23504 United States
Becouse a 56 year toll is a robery of the public and a noose to the city of portsmouth . due to just to get to the city u
2/8/2012 gotta pay!!! Miss carriage of justice for poor and all people
Reinah Riggins Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
As a working, commuting student attending ODU I travel through these tunnels at least twice a day, often four times
a day and sometimes six times in a day. The toll would make the cost of my education unaffordable. It seems unfrair
that the proposed toll is siphoning money from hampton roads to be used in other parts of the state. Let's not forget
2/8/2012 a toll is a tax! one which there will be no credit for.
Jim Windley Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
I oppose putting tolls back on our facilities. I think if the state wants to build two more lanes on the Midtown Tunnel,
2/8/2012 they ought to float bonds and pay for it out of the general fund.
Melissa Truman VIRGINIA BEACH VA 23462 United States
do not believe tolls are necessary for everyone. I do not travel the tunnels everyday and a pass would be a waste of
2/8/2012 money and paying the toll would be unfair. Taxes do not need to be raised either.
