Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Zachary Booher Chesapeake VA 23322 United States
I constantly have to drive back and forth between TCC campus using the tunnel because not all of my classes are
2/7/2012 offered at one location.
Lawrence Ryan Portsmouth VA 23703 United States 2/7/2012 i think 50% tax rate is more than sufficient
Matt Frank Suffolk VA 23435 United States
In addition to challenging a fragile local economy, it hurts the poor and will create a whole new category of
lawlessness for those unable to pay after going through a tunnel. Add ten cents to a gallon of gas! Why should we
2/7/2012 have to pay a private company's profit for a public need.
Tim Griffith Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
The tolls are wrong. Why is Norfolk and Portsmouth having to foot the bill when the whole state of Va and the rest
of the nation will benefit from the items transported from the Marine Terminals. Why are there no tolls around
2/7/2012 norhern Va.? They say not in my back yard.
Barbara Nelson Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
Our budgets are already streched to the breaking point ! The cost of living keeps going up but our paychecks are not .
Its goin to be a major reason that people will move out of portsmouth and keep people from visiting our city . The
future of Portsmouth is in danger of becoming a city that people will avoid instead of enjoying its natural beauty and
2/7/2012 history !
Patricia woods PORTSMOUTH VA 23703 United States
I live in Portsmouth and work in Virginia Beach. it is hard enough to make ends meet with the economy the way it is
and the high price of gas. I won't be able to afford to go to work if a toll is put on the tunnels at the expected high
2/7/2012 toll.
Ellen Elliott Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
I live in Chesapeake and work in Norfolk. I have to go through a tunnel to get to work at least 5 days a week,
sometimes 6.. What is so bad is to go from paying nothing to go through the tunnel to paying almost $2 each way,
which adds up to almost $80 a month just to get to work. This is in addition to increased gas prices. This is not fair! If
we must pay a toll, why not make it something resonable, especially for people who must take the tunnel each day to
2/7/2012 get to work, as opposed to people who just go through the tunnel occaionally. This is not fair!
Sarah Davis Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
Its not fair to charge hardworking people just to get to their jobs that provide for their families. Its bad enough
money is so tight as it is but now this will cause local residents to tighten their wallets even more! This will end up
becoming a domino effect with business and city events too! Why can't we use the money that bought signs and
crappy road repairs for something that has been critical since forever? We knew this was a problem long before now
and after the millions on a stupid light rail we now have to charge our hardworking citizens even more. This is just
2/7/2012 plain BS!!!
jonatan davis portsmouth VA 23701 United States
I get went from a good paying to not so good paying job after a year of not being able to find work and have been
there for 2 years now, but I work in VB and live in portsmouth, so between my and my wife our tight funds would get
2/7/2012 even more to the point of unlivable with the addition of a daily toll on the tunnel.
Justin Taylor Virginia Beach VA 23462 United States
I don't even get to use the new tunnel because I will PCS by then. Toll the new tunnels to make it optional. Many
2/7/2012 military families are only temporary residents here and can't afford this!
Janet Fischer Chesapeake VA 23321 United States
think that the tolls should be included in the gas tax everyone needs to support the roads regardless if you use them
2/7/2012 or not. Tolls will effect the citizens of portsmouth and western chesapeake
Lisa Hutchings Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
I am a long time resident of Port Norfolk and travel daily to work in downtown Norfolk. VDOT had a surplus of $$$
2/7/2012 several years ago that should have been used to finance this project.
John McGlynn Portsmouth VA 23704 United States 2/7/2012 There is no fairness in the current plans for Tolls on the 2 Portsmouth tunnels.
P Winter Accettola Portsmouth VA 23707 United States
I remember when we had the tolls. Not a good thing. With added numbers today, I am sure the increased time,
2/7/2012 frustration, breakdowns, etc when using the tunnels would also increase..
Stephanie Wallace Norfolk VA 23518 United States
A lot of our military live in the cities away from the bases and commute to them. It is not right to toll everyone like
this. What about the people who are already struggling to make it now ? How will single parents who live in one city
and work in another survive? Must be nice to impose these tolls on other people and live a lucrative life from the
2/7/2012 struggling of other people.
In addition to creating a financial hardship for many Portsmouth residents who must go outside city limits to find a
job, tolls will be prohibitive for college students who are trying to save money by living at home and commuting to
Bonnie Sutton Portsmouth VA 23703 United States 2/7/2012 ODU, NSU, VWC or TCC. College costs are already so high and this will add nearly $1,000 to the annual expenses.
