Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
Robert Galewski Norfolk VA 23505 United States
I live in Norfolk, and work in Portsmouth, I can barely afford to live now, and you want to hinder me getting to work
3/8/2012 by making me pay to get there?
Debra Sears norfolk VA 23513 United States
this will kill the small businesses and low income people who can barely get by now. this will also make traffic a
worse nightmare to drive. I drive a truck for my job those tolls would add close to 6 dollars a day. sometimes more.
3/8/2012 find the money some where else and not toll the most congested tunnels.
Barbara Taber, EdD Suffolk VA 23435 United States
This will kill Portsmouth and I didn't miss anything in Norfolk, the day the tolls start will be the day I quit going to
3/8/2012 Norfolk
larry rorrer ports VA 23703 United States
cant afford gas cant afford food there is no reason to make some private company rich so more people here in
3/8/2012 tidewater go broke
david jernigan jr Va. beach VA 23455 United States
north carolina has no tolls yet there roads are better than ours and the gas is almost the same price. Can anyone
3/8/2012 explain that? gas tax needs to go up and no tolls.
Pernille Bjerring Virginia Beach VA 23455 United States 3/8/2012 Not what we need to stimulate growth and prosperity!
Elizabeth Mauro Suffolk VA 23435 United States
I feel a toll is just not the way to go.. In a time where no one wants another bill or tax including me. But maybe a
3/8/2012 small tax on everyone is better.?.?.?
JOHN CARROLL CHESTER VA 23831 United States
Highway/Transportation systems should be controlled and maintained by our government ‐ NOT turned over to
3/8/2012 private enterprise.
Cynthia Banks Portsmouth VA 23701 United States 3/8/2012 Such a decision will ultimately impact business growth & families moving into our area.
Jackson Cordial Chesapeake VA 23321 United States 3/8/2012 These proposed tolls are illegal and highly inappropriate, as well as unnecessary.
Ronald Burkhardt Virginia Beach VA 23462 United States
I use the downtown tunnel twice a day, and that's just getting to work, not to mention getting to the shipyards. I use
the midtown tunnel at least 4 times a day on top of the downtown. The $956.80 a year is a wishful thought for me,
I'm looking at probably almost $1,500.00 a year in pure tolls. That is not only a month of my mortgage, it is a new 45"
LCD Television, a trip to Jamaica or emergency repairs for my wife's car when she can't get to work. This will not only
hurt indivdual families monitarily, but ruin Portsmouth's economy for nightlife and commerce. Now when I want to
go to Griff's Bar on High Street from my home in VA Beach, I'll think twice... sorry Griff's, I'm going to miss your
3/8/2012 infamous pickle chips.
Linda Davis Elizabeth city NC 27909 United States
I'm signing this petition because the gas tax should have been increased long ago before the tolls ever became a
reality. This is a stupid deal and should be dealt with in whatever way necessary to reduce or eliminate the tolls.
3/8/2012 Whoever decided to sell Portsmouth to the highest bidder should never see elected office again.
Mary Finn norfolk VA 23504 United States
This is going to be DETRIMENTAL to the already struggling sailors, marines and the rest of the military community.
This economy is terrible, gas prices are ridiculous, we do not get aid nearly enough as it is, and yet, they want to
show their appreciation to the military by putting tolls on getting to and from hospital care at Naval Medical Center
3/8/2012 Portsmouth? This makes absolutely no sense.
Diane W. Willoughby Virginia Beach VA 23455‐3210 United States
I think the toll is way too high. I'd rather see a smaller gas tax than this. I believe I paid 40 cents a long time ago.
People will just find a way around it to get to work. This will over crowd Military Hwy. or I64.I thought federal
government control was bad. WOW. State government control is bad, too. I am a conservative Republican, but I
3/8/2012 think the governor is way off tract. This is a non‐partisan issue and the people need to stand together.
JOHN WALL CHESAPEAKE VA 23320 United States 3/8/2012 THESE ARE UNJUST TOLLS,
Mary Peris Norfolk VA 23508 United States
My family uses the tunnel 8 to ten times a week for business and church. The toll of $1.84 is Not Affordable! I am
3/8/2012 retired and my spouse is self employed!
Paul Sonderegger Norfolk VA 23518‐2117 United States 3/8/2012 Do not want tolls at all. A form of tax on people of VA.
John Martins Portsmouth VA 23701 United States
I think it's unfair to force a fee on a paid for route that is a necessity to most who use it without first perssuing other
3/9/2012 options.
adrienne purvis portsmouth VA 23704 United States 3/9/2012 the toll amount is too high. It shoud be $.50
