The Republicans around here just want to be able to say that they didn't raise any taxes so they can get re‐elected. Well Duh! They must think that we are stupid, isn't a TOLL just another form of a TAX anyway? I know my friends and family from out of state won't be likely to come visit. I'll do my best to avoid the tunnels that is for sure. I really feel bad for those who have no choice and have to go that 3/5/2012 way. I may have to quit my job if the tolls go into effect and find a job on the same of the tunnel where I reside. This cost does not include if I need to go through the tunnel over the weeked, this is what I will have to pay just to get to work. With gasoline already pushing $4 per gallon, tolls would cost another $1,000 per year. Most people really can't afford these extra and unexpected costs. Did our state government forget that it needs to build roads and other infrastructure projects for its businnesses and citizens to promote commerce and create jobs so we have a healthy and vibrant state economy? A second tube has been needed at the mid‐town tunnel for several years due to daily traffic congestion. This is just another example of poor planning and poor allocation of limited resources. Think if all the gasoline that will be saved by having a smoother flow of traffic at the downtown and mid‐town tunnels after 3/5/2012 the completion of this project. Use a fair tax (like increased fuel taxes) to cover the cost. It would be much cheaper than the logistics of a tolls system, and would avoid placing the noose of tolls around our necks, especially when a foreign company holds the other end of the 3/5/2012 rope. Many people are going to lose jobs because of the toll. Also the back up in traffic is going to be outrageous. The traffic already backs up over 4 miles to get through the tunnel, now you will never make it to work on time...much less be able to afford to get through everyday. This is not a good place to place a toll. Why not place it in Virginia Beach. The tourist alone brings in more money to that city. Make the tourist pay the tolls...there are many other things that can be done rather then make a low income small area pay to go through a tunnel that is access to many of the jobs that we 3/5/2012 do not have on this side of the water.
