Attachment to Mr. Cairn's Message Regarding
Termination for Convenience of the P3 Contract for the Midtown Tunnel/Downtown Tunnel/MLK Extension Project
DARLENE KELLY PORTSMOUTH VA 23703 United States
In this ecoomy, adding a toll would be a hardship on many families. If the state/federal government cannot afford to
build a new tunnel at this time, then they need to wait. Where is the money from our gas taxes going???? This toll is
3/5/2012 aimed toward the military. How much more do you want our military to give?
Christie Johnson Portsmouth VA 23703 United States
Because this is the wrong time to go forward on this project in a recession and 50 years is way to long to keep this in
3/5/2012 place. They need to rethink this project.
Alicia Mathews Virginia Beach VA 23454 United States
I have friends and employees who use the tunnels on a daily basis. That would be two tolls five or six times a week.
Just the toll alone will be an additional expense of close to $1,000 a year. With the added cost of increasing gas
prices, this will be a huge burden on them and others in the Hampton Roads area. The tolls will further separate the
cities of Hampton Roads, it will deter individuals from going across the water to small businesses and hurt companies
that are already suffering in this poor economy. Overall, tolls will put a huge burden on our community that is
3/5/2012 already hurting. Don't do this to Hampton Roads! No tolls!
William Golden Portsmouth VA 23704 United States
I live in Portsmouth but work at Fort Story, between higher real estate taxes, flood insurance, and property insurance
my mortgage went up $200 a month already this year. The new toll is going to cut into an already tight budget in our
3/5/2012 household.
Diane Golden Colonial Heights VA 23834 United States
It is unfair to a city that has no other way to get out of their city and go to work in Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia
3/5/2012 Beach.
Even though I do live in Franklin I work in Norfolk and use the tunnels every day.
Rachel Nelson franklin VA 23851 United States 3/5/2012
As a military spouse, a Hampton Roads native, and an employee of a small business‐‐I cannot help but wonder why
there are no tolls in the D.C. area, but we are getting hit with them when we are living in the 2nd most populated are
Kelly Owens Chesapeake VA 23323 United States 3/5/2012 of the state,,,,where is the money going for our area?! Is this a result of incompetent leadership?....
Margaret Sullivan Suffolk VA 23435 United States
I live is Suffolk and work in Virginia Beach. I now have an hour's drive to work. The tolls with havean impact on my
3/5/2012 travel time and wallet. There are many people who will be unable to afford the cost oif the tolls.
michelle Piper Clearfield PA 16830 United States
I use live in VA & putting a toll up is wrong in this economy how u expect ppl to be able pay that & gas everything else
3/5/2012 when most ppl would have pay it 2 or more times a day
Ahsha Thomas Norfolk VA 23505 United States
This would have a costly effect on my family and me if this was to be put in place. The economy has already affected
3/5/2012 so as citizens we should have to endure once again another strain.
Albert Whitley Portsmouth VA 23701 United States 3/5/2012 Unfair
Ashley Veal Suffolk VA 23435 United States
I think there are other ways to get this revenue. Those of us who don't take these particular routes our commute will
3/5/2012 be directly affected by drivers trying to avoid paying the toll. It's going to be a mess for everyone.
Dawn Williams Chesapeake VA 23322 United States
This is ridiculous! Tolls is just another word for a tax anyway. It just penalizes us who lives in the Hampton Roads
area. It's unfair to the local employers, people who need to use the Naval Hospital & who work there and the people
who live and work in Portsmouth. Governor McDonnell shame on you (and you're from here) and the rest of the
Northern VA legislators for sticking it to us once again. You take our taxes and keep it for yourselves once again but
3/5/2012 when we need the help, you always tell us NO.
David Williams Chesapeake VA 23322 United States
I'm a TCC student, not all of my classes are at one campus. Why do I have to pay 2 or three times the normal amount
of a toll if I don't have this transponder? I don't even get 5 hours a week at my current employer and now I have to
depend on my parents to help me make my car payment which I hate have them do. This is not fair! I can't afford
this toll and I don't even want to even ask my parents to help me pay this toll. Thanks a lot Governor McDonnell, I
3/5/2012 wish I could vote you and the rest of the representives who thought this was a great idea out of office right now.
