VALUES OF WORLD ETHOS IN CROATIA
The author argues that the respect for the values of world ethos in Croatia
indicates the acceptance of values of world ethos as a project.
The theoretical background is based on some of the theses proposed
by Hans Küng about a fairer world order, world and religious peace and
dialogue as well as the Declaration of World Ethos (Chicago, 1993).
The paper presents the results of the empirical research on the respect
for the values of world ethos in Croatia conducted on the sample of 1008
adults in 105 towns and villages in late 2010. The first part presents the
results of the perception of respect for nine values: the principle of humanity;
non-violence and respect for life; justice and solidarity; honesty and
tolerance; and mutual esteem and partnership. The values are compared
with socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents. The second
part shows the relations between (a) the respect for values and the concept
of “new world order” and (b) the values and dimensions of socio-cultural
identity in Croatia. The conclusion presents a table of the relation between
the perception of the respect for values and socio-demographic characteristics
of the respondents.
EUTHANASIA POLICY AND PRACTICE IN BELGIUM
The concern of this study lies with the practice of euthanasia in Belgium.
Its methodology is based on critical review of the literature supplemented
by interviews I conducted in Belgium with leading scholars and
practitioners during 2003–2005. The interviews were conducted in English,
usually at the interviewees’ offices. The interviews were semi-structured.
