uputio u »srce tame« upoznati prave Na’vije…
antropologa s američkom vojskom, nalik onoj koja u kontekstu ratova u
Iraku i Afganistanu zauzima centralno mjesto »protu-pobunjeničke« ratne
strategije, a »Human Terrain System«, zbog kršenja etičkog kodeksa američke
antropologije, osudila je Američka antropološka asocijacija (American
Anthropological Association, AAA).
AVATAR – IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER
YOU ARE WHITE OR BLUE
It is difficult not to read James Cameron’s movie Avatar from the point
of view of postcolonial studies. What appears to be an attempt at criticism
of American imperialism is built on a racist subtext.
After the success of Avatar, the NGO Amazon Watch involved Cameron
in helping them fight for the rights of the tribes living in the Amazon
Basin. Applying the inverted logic of the simulacrum, Cameron travelled
to the “Heart of Darkness” to meet some real Na’vi…
One of the anthropologically relevant topics prompted by the movie is
collaboration between the army and anthropologists. Within the context of
the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, collaboration of this type became central
in the “counter-insurgency” war strategies of the US Army. “Human Terrain
System” is condemned by the American Anthropological Association
(AAA) for violating the AAA Code of Ethics.
