RELATION TOWARDS LIVING BEINGS: RESULTS OF EMPIRICAL RESEARCH IN 2010 The paper analyses the results of the empirical research on the relation towards living beings. The research was conducted in 2010 on the convenience sample of 410 students from 8 faculties of the University of Zagreb. The respondents were asked about the perception of human and animal rights to life and motives of human concern and behaviour towards all living beings – the biotic ecumene. There is a specific theoretic approach to understanding of 1) the rights to life, i.e. three groups of attitudes towards life: egalitarianism, domination of humans and the fight for survival, and 2) the motives of human behaviour towards all forms of life, i.e. four main motives: ethical duty, benefit, emotionality and dependence on specific situations. 144
The aim of the paper is to present: 1) general distributions of research results, 2) correlation between socio-demographic characteristics and orientations (sex, faculties, years of study, religious and political orientations and socio-ecological orientations) and the perception of the relation towards living beings, and 3) comparison with previous research conducted in 2005. FAUNA NATIONAL PARKS – CAPTIVITY OASES OR OASES OF FREEDOM AND SURVIVAL National parks around the world have been founded under the influence of the public with the noblest intention to stop the extinction of many animal kingdom species. Those national parks are being constantly visited by millions of people whose sensibility for fauna preservation is being enhanced by their visit. How do members of fauna experience their staying in such nature oases? Do they want to change it? Who should they address and how? Negative aspects of fauna living in such nature oases are being observed from scientific point of view. Those negative aspects can be noticed mostly in the change of biological nature as well as mild degeneration of the species. 145
