李
樹 芬 醫 學 基 金 於 1963 年 3 月 成 立 , 宗 旨 是 促 進 香 港 的
醫 學 教 育 與 醫 學 研 究 。 李 樹 芬 醫 生 早 明 其 志 , 欲 把 所
持 養 和 醫 院 全 部 股 份 投 放 於 更 具 深 遠 意 義 的 地 方 。 經 過 詳 細
考 究 下 , 李 醫 生 決 定 將 當 時 約 值 一 千 八 百 萬 港 元 之 股 額 用 作
成 立 基 金 之 用 。 自 成 立 以 來 , 李 樹 芬 醫 學 基 金 乃 為 養 和 醫 院
之 最 大 單 一 股 東 。

李 樹 芬 醫 生 一 向 對 美 奧 醫 學 基 金 之 理 念 甚 為 欣 賞 ─ 美 奧 醫 學
基 金 頒 授 獎 學 金 予 美 國 明 尼 蘇 達 大 學 指 定 專 科 之 醫 學 生 , 以
促 進 醫 學 教 育 與 研 究 。 因 此 , 李 醫 生 盼 藉 李 樹 芬 醫 學 基 金 ,
向 醫 學 和 護 士 學 生 和 研 究 生 頒 發 獎 學 金 、 助 學 金 及 獎 金 , 以
發 展 醫 學 及 護 士 學 教 育 , 並 推 進 醫 學 研 究 。
1963 年 3 月 3 日 , 李 樹 芬 醫 學 基 金 舉 行 成 立 典 禮 , 香 港 總 督 柏
立 基 爵 士 致 詞 時 讚 揚 李 樹 芬 醫 生 對 本 港 醫 療 之 貢 獻 及 慷 慨 濟

世 之 情 操 : 「 李 樹 芬 醫 生 透 過 成 立 醫 學 基 金 , 為 香 港 有 為 之
青 年 人 帶 來 發 揮 所 能 的 機 會 , 俾 能 長 遠 促 進 全 民 健 康 , 造 福
香 港 社 會 。」
李 樹 芬 醫 生 曾 言 : 「 願 盡 我 一 生 , 使 世 界 比 我 初 生 所 見 的 更
為 美 好 , 此 乃 吾 之 信 念 也 。 」 如 其 所 願 , 時 至 今 日 , 人 類 生
活 各 方 面 均 見 長 足 進 步 。 而 李 樹 芬 醫 生 的 無 私 奉 獻 , 確 已 盡
上 一 分 力 , 令 世 界 更 添 美 好 。
In March 1963, the Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation was established
to promote and support medical education and research in Hong
Kong. Dr. Li Shu Fan had been holding the view for some time then
to convert his entire holding in the Hospital to a worthy cause. Eventually
he made the endowment valued at the time approximately 18 million
Hong Kong dollars towards setting up the Foundation. Since inception,
the Foundation has by far been the single largest shareholder of the
Hospital.
Inspired by the Mayo Foundation which aimed at promoting medical
education and research in the University of Minnesota, granting fellowships
to promising graduates to work in an approved field, Dr. Li, through
the Foundation, provided scholarships, bursaries and prizes to university
students and researchers in Hong Kong and directed attention towards
medical and nursing education, and made substantial provision for
medical research.
At the inauguration ceremony held on 3 March 1963, the then Governor
of Hong Kong Sir Robert Black paid tribute to Dr. Li for his dedication to
healing and for his remarkable generosity that “Through this Foundation,
Dr. Li Shu Fan provides a great opportunity to develop the full potential
of those young men and women in Hong Kong who are judged best
able to benefit the health of Hong Kong.”
Later in life Dr. Li had expressed, “One of the main philosophic
convictions of my life has been the desire to leave the world a little
richer than when I found it.” If Dr. Li could have known, he would
have been very pleased that the world had indeed become better than
the circumstances obtaining in his days. He had made his share of
contribution to the development through his philantropy.
