Outpatient Department 

With an environment that ensures maximum comfort and privacy, 

the Outpatient Department provides 24-hour general outpatient 

services including Sundays and public holidays. Number of doctors 

has also been increased to accommodate patient need. 

There are 8 well-equipped consultation rooms and 2 treatment 

rooms. The treatment rooms are equipped with operating tables 

and lights, oxygen, suction, cautery, cardiac monitors and other 

resuscitation facilities, so that minor surgeries such as suturing, 

removal of foreign bodies and plastering can be performed. 

Other than general outpatient service, experienced Hospital 

consultants of various specialties can also be accessed for 

consultation. Special service packages are available for emergency 

surgeries.

Centre provides continuous, comprehensive and holistic

The Pain Management Clinic offers integrated multidisciplinary 

management of patients with painful conditions. The programme

Established in 1998, the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Centre 

is Hong Kong’s first full fledged private hospital-based centre 

of its kind. It provides patients with comprehensive services 

including consultation, skin treatment, laser therapy, cosmetic 

surgery, reconstructive surgery and make-up services. The 

Centre also provides 24-hour emergency service to patients 

with facial trauma and burn injuries. All services are offered by 

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, where the service of 

Dermatologists will be arranged if necessary. The new Surgery & 

Skin Laser Unit and outpatient section were specially designed 

to ensure privacy and comfort to patients.

The IVF theatre, with a purpose-built laboratory and 

operating theatre, is staffed by a professional team of gynecologists 

surgeons, endocrinologists and embryologists, who are 

dedicated to the application of advanced assisted reproductive

The Department of Diagnostic & Interventional 

Radiology provides accurate and high quality diagnostic 

imaging services in various modalities such as CT, MRI, 

Ultrasound and conventional radiography with the use 

of state-of-the-art equipment. Our 3T whole-body MRI 

scanner is the first 3T system in the world to be integrated 

with the revolutionary Total Imaging Matrix technology.

In 2008, the Department installed the Toshiba Aquilion 

320 ONE Dynamic Volume CT, the world’s first Dynamic 

CT, which was then followed by the GE Discovery CT750 

HD (HDCT), the world’s first high-definition CT scanner, 

in 2009. As a new generation of dual source CT scanner, 

SOMATOM Definition Flash was installed in 2010, 

achieving faster scanning, higher clarity, wider coverage at 

a significantly reduced dose.

Allied Health Services 

Regarding interventional treatment, the ExAblate® 2000 MRguided 

Focused Ultrasound Surgery System was installed in 

September 2007 to offer a new non-invasive treatment for 

symptomatic uterine fibroids. A wide range of interventional 

procedures are also available, including MRI guided breast 

biopsy, vascular interventions and radiofrequency ablation 

of tumours.

The Department of Physiotherapy provides a comprehensive 

range of physiotherapy services for the treatment, training 

and rehabilitation of patients with orthopaedic conditions, 

sports injuries, musculoskeletal and neurological problems, 

paediatric, women’s health and geriatric conditions, 

respiratory, cardiovascular and diabetic diseases, and 

maternity and weight management needs. 

The Department was relocated and expanded in 2008 with 

a bigger rehabilitation venue, an advanced fitness gym and 

a hydrotherapy pool. With users’ well-being in mind, the 

Department has acquired several high-end equipments to 

ensure exercise safety and achieve fitness 

enhancement. Sports injury is less likely to happen. Users’ 

safety is guaranteed with physiotherapists and personal 

trainers in attendance during exercise.

The Hospital has partnered with the mass media to reach 

all walks of life, to increase public awareness about health 

and enable them to make informed health decisions. We 

also contribute to public health education through active 

participation in various exhibitions or seminars hosted by 

organizations such as Hospital Authority Health InfoWorld, 

Hong Kong Anti-cancer Society, Hong Kong Heart Foundation, 

etc. 

The Hospital joins forces with Ming Pao to operate the

information and tips of healthy living to the general public. 

Seminars are held regularly on various topics by specialists 

in respective disciplines of medicine. 

The Hospital collaborates with Metro Finance to broadcast 

a serial weekly radio programme. In the one-hour 

programme, specialists speak on various diseases and 

treatment methods and answer phone-in enquiries from 

listeners. 

The Hospital has a weekly column in East Weekly magazine 

to disseminate health information through case studies. 

Correct and simple medical information is propagated 

for assimilation by the public. 

The Hospital introduces “The HKSH Health Series”, 

which is a collection of books and articles penned by our 

in-house doctors and medical specialists. Each volume 

covers a specific health-and–medical-related topic, 

providing the public with the most updated information 

and health advice. Two volumes, namely “Prevention of 

4 Highs with Smart Recipes”, followed by “A Guide to 

Heart Care” are now on sale in bookstores.

School of Nursing 

Community Services 

Throughout the past several years, the Hospital has been 

supporting or organizing health promotion programmes 

through the Dr. Ellen Li Charitable Foundation. In memory of 

the late Dr Ellen Li, the wife of the former Medical Superintendent 

Dr Li Shu Pui, the Dr Ellen Li Charitable Foundation 

was established in November 2005 to support development 

in medicine. 

One of the sponsored programmes of Dr. Ellen Li Charitable 

Foundation is the Hong Kong Hereditary and High Risk Breast 

Cancer Programme, which is the first-of-its-kind that offers 

clinical service and collects genetic data of the Asian 

population, in particular the Chinese population, for 

ethnic-specific assessment and management of breast cancer. 

The Hospital has always been supportive of staff 

participation in charity campaign, such as the Oxfam 

Trailwalker since 2002, the Community Chest Walk 

and the recent “Run to Beijing Charity Marathon”. 

Since 2001, the Hospital has been supporting the Cervical 

Cancer Awareness Programme organised by Hong Kong 

Cancer Fund. In 2007, we joined force with P&G Hong 

Kong to offer comprehensive screening at a special rate 

for the Programme, with the aim to raise public awareness 

of cervical cancer prevention. 

In 2008, the Dr. Ellen Li Charitable Foundation sponsored 

free cervical screening for new immigrants in the “Ripple 

Action” campaign. 

In the recent Sichuan earthquake in May 2008, the Hospital 

initiated a hospital-wide fund-raising campaign and 

pledged to match the donation dollar-for-dollar. We have 

raised over HK$ 7.3 million in total for the Hong Kong 

Red Cross to assist to the long-term rehabilitation of 

earthquake victims. 

In April 2009, Village Volunteer was established by the 

Hospital to encourage staff members in participating 

community services. “Walk for Vision” charitable 

walkathon was organized to raise fund for Ebenezer

School & Home for the Visually Impaired, with the goal to 

purchase a brand new 16 seater minibus to carry wheel 

chairs for children with special needs. It was held again 

in March 2010 with an aim to raise funds for Make-A- 

Wish® Hong Kong and help severely ill children. 

As the supporting organization of the Operation Santa 

Claus and with the help of the Village Volunteers, the 

Hospital organized a special Christmas party to raise funds 

on 21December 2009. Food stalls, lucky draw, carol 

singing, charity sales and auctions were featured during 

the party. Over HK$160,000 were collected during the 

party. With the dollar-for-dollar matching campaign 

arranged by the Hospital, the event had raised a total of 

over HK$320,000 for the Operation Santa Claus.

The School of Nursing was established in 1927 to provide a 

constant supply of high quality nurses to work in the health 

care industry. The Hospital was the only private hospital in 

Hong Kong with nurse training facilities offering a three-year 

nursing curriculum (until 2002 when the training was temporarily 

suspended). In November 2004, the School was re-opened 

to provide a two-year enrolled nurse training programme. In 

September 2005, in collaboration with the Open University of 

Hong Kong, the School offered a full-time Bachelor of Nursing 

(Honours) Degree Programme in General Health Care to 

provide training to students aspired to become Registered 

Nurses (General) in Hong Kong. The School also collaborated 

with Hong Kong Polytechnic University to offer a Master of 

Nursing Degree programme starting from September 2008. 

People who have Bachelor’s Degrees in other fields can also 

join this programme if they are interested in pursuing a career 

in health care. 

All nurses are dedicated to the well-being of patients, empathy 

for the family and services to doctors.
