Aims to consolidate <strong>and</strong> enhance your<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> the core methodologies in<br />

Christian theology. Topics include three days <strong>of</strong><br />

Easter, signs <strong>and</strong> symbols, contextual theology<br />

<strong>and</strong> psalms.<br />

Essentials <strong>of</strong> the Philosophy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Religion</strong><br />

Enables students to have a secure <strong>and</strong><br />

critical knowledge <strong>of</strong> the effect <strong>of</strong> applying<br />

philosophical method to the content <strong>of</strong> religion<br />

<strong>and</strong> to some <strong>of</strong> the problems that arise when<br />

considering the coherence <strong>of</strong> theistic belief.<br />

You will explore the relationship between issues<br />

<strong>of</strong> gender, sexuality <strong>and</strong> culture as key factors in<br />

human identity, development <strong>and</strong> society.<br />

learning environment, or suggest your own,<br />

to negotiate an appropriate assessment from<br />

portfolio to presentation or poster.<br />

Independent Study<br />

You will produce a proposal on a topic that<br />

interests you, work with an expert tutor <strong>and</strong><br />

write in depth.<br />

You will investigate varied social research<br />

methods <strong>and</strong> choose fieldwork or literary<br />

research to create a research proposal.<br />

The module will examine key figures <strong>and</strong><br />

writings in the contemporary evolution <strong>of</strong><br />

socially-engaged religious movements, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

analyses <strong>of</strong> the controversial nature <strong>of</strong> these<br />

movements amongst scholars <strong>and</strong> against<br />

the background <strong>of</strong> the history <strong>of</strong> the religious<br />

traditions from which they emerge.<br />

<strong>Theology</strong> in Social Context<br />

Introduces alternative ways <strong>of</strong> pursuing a<br />

theological engagement which will interrogate<br />

the relationship between theology, Christianity<br />

<strong>and</strong> its social <strong>and</strong> cultural context.<br />

Continental Philosophy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Religion</strong><br />

Aims to develop <strong>and</strong> advance your knowledge<br />

<strong>of</strong> the range <strong>of</strong> approaches possible in<br />

philosophy <strong>of</strong> religion. Topics include major<br />

figures in continental philosophy, atheism <strong>and</strong><br />

evil in literature.<br />

<strong>Theology</strong><br />

You will use available resources from the virtual<br />

learning environment, or suggest your own, to<br />

negotiate an appropriate assessment.<br />

<strong>Religion</strong>, Philosophy & the Body<br />

Considers the development <strong>of</strong> religious <strong>and</strong><br />

philosophical approaches to the body with<br />

particular reference to specific historical periods.<br />

Topics include sex <strong>and</strong> death in religions <strong>and</strong><br />

the body in Christian thought.<br />

Dissertation<br />

You are required to propose <strong>and</strong> write an<br />

8-10,000 word dissertation on a topic <strong>of</strong> your<br />

choosing working with the support <strong>of</strong> teaching<br />

staff.
