2010 Charger Football
Linebackers
John Lindley
Defensive Line
Aaron Shreffler
John Lindley enters his sixth
season coaching the Hillsdale College
linebackers. His previous coaching
stops have included Central Michigan
University, Tiffin University, Michigan
Tech University and Eastern Michigan
University.
An enthusiastic and passionate
coach, Lindley hits the practice field
with one standing philosophy: “We will
be the most aggressive linebacking unit
in football.” Under Lindley’s guidance,
linebacker Tom Korte put together an
outstanding four-year career for the
Chargers from 2005-08, and signed with
the defending Super Bowl champion
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Lindley was an assistant coach
at CMU under newly elected College
Football Hall of Famer Herb Deromedi
in 1991 when the Chippewas upset then-
No. 18 ranked Michigan State, 20-3. In
the summer of 2006, Lindley enjoyed one
of the great experiences of his life when
he observed U.S. Marine Corps training
procedures at the base in Quantico, Va.
Aaron Shreffler will enter
his fourth season in charge of
Hillsdale’s defensive line in 2010,
making him a part of the same
coaching staff as his older brother
Nate.
Shreffler is the brother of
current Chargers’ offensive line
coach Nate Shreffler. Aaron
Shreffler came to Hillsdale after
spending one season as the
offensive line coach at Georgia
Southern University. He spent
the prior seven seasons with St.
Francis (Ind.) coaching both the
offensive and defensive lines.
Shreffler played center for
Ohio University from 1992-97,
but was recruited to play for
Hillsdale when he was a prep
standout at Celina (Ohio) High
School. While at Celina, Shreffler
won several individual awards,
including All-Region and All-
Northwest Ohio.
Aaron lives in Hillsdale with his wife
Molly, and their daughter Lilly.
Tight ends/H-Backs
Pat Hornak
A popular, veteran member of the
coaching staff, Pat Hornak plays an
important role in the day-to-day running
of the Charger football program.
Pat is entering his fourth season
as the tight ends and H-backs coach, in
addition to his widely ranging duties as
director of football operations.
In his first season of coaching the
H-backs and tight ends in 2007, Pat
played an instrumental role in Hillsdale’s
record-breaking offense. Both of those
positions play critical roles in the diversity
and depth of the Charger offense.
Pat’s responsibilities as DFO include
equipment maintenance and repair
as well as game and practice video
responsibility. Pat joined the Hillsdale
College football program as a player in
1999, and is in his ninth season as part of
the team’s coaching staff.
Pat’s nephew Tim is a redshirtfreshman
offensive lineman for the
Chargers.
