sale under fair skies and warm temperatures
for the first day of March. A standing
room only crowd was on hand to participate
in the sale.

105th Annual Calgary Bull Sale

Calgary, Alberta, Canada – Two
hundred and eighty-two top Alberta Bulls
were sold in the 105th Annual Calgary Bull
Sale hosted by the Alberta Cattle Breeders
Association March 2–4, 2005 at
Stampede Park.
The sale grossed $1,016,150, an
increase of nearly 35% over last year. The
sale also saw growth in the averages in
all three breeds; Angus, Charolais and
Hereford, an increase of 15%, 26% and
37% respectively.
Purebred and commercial cattlemen
gathered in the Stampede Agriculture
building in person and on-line to purchase
some Alberta bull power.
“The sale was very much a buyers’
market.” claimed Walter Blume of Castor,
Alberta. “I never saw more bull for less
money. The cattle were in nicer condition,
and there were more real good bulls in
my estimation than I’ve ever seen, despite
the smaller numbers.”
Blume has been coming to the Calgary
Bull Sale since 1944 with the exception
of the past two years and has sold several
hundred bulls through the sale from 1950-
2003. He also served on the Alberta Cattle
Breeders Association from 1968-2000.
“There is no future in not bringing
quality.” says Blume who raises purebred
horned Herefords with his brother Allen.
“The competition is extremely keen.
People bring their best bulls to sell here.”
The sale marked the second year in
utilizing TEAM (The Electronic Auction
Market) to market bulls in real-time online
bidding in addition to live bidding.
Over 1,000,000 hits from fourteen
countries were received throughout the
week of the Calgary Bull Sale. Thursday,
March 3 rd was the busiest day in TEAM
history with 300,000 hits. On-line sales
were up 50% with 3 Angus, 2 Charolais
and one Hereford selling on-line to Alberta
and B.C. buyers. The blending of long-
