G L1 Domino 206H sold for $5100 to Jensen & Lehrkamp, Caputa, SD. Genetic Outreach Program Update The Genetic Outreach Program, administered and managed by the Kansas Hereford Association is thriving and going very well. Over 400 steers are currently on feed at Royal Beef in Scott City, Kansas. The first group, started in December have been ultrasounded and are well on their way to market. The scan data will be used to market many of these cattle with National Beef and CHB already showing interest. Very little health problems have been encountered and the cattle are gaining very well with many over the four pound rate. The second group went on feed in February and have a good start with very little sickness and good weather for the most part. The next GOP start date will be in June. Also anytime a producer wants to start a load of cattle and have them run through GOP, contact the Kansas Hereford Association and we will try and work something out to help you. We intend this to become a “user friendly” operation with the emphasis on finding and isolating the best Hereford cattle to benefit the breeders involved and their customers. National Beef is really starting to look at these cattle seriously and we hope the premiums will be forthcoming at market time. We are also working on source identification with the feedyard and hoping to get premiums for the participants for their efforts. April/May 2005 HEREFORD AMERICA • 3 Montana Stockgrowers Association hires Brewster as field representative The Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) announced they have hired Bill Brewster of Townsend to serve as field representative of the state’s largest livestock organization. Steve Pilcher, executive vice president of MSGA, said Brewster’s duties will include serving as a liaison between members and the organization, promoting MSGA at livestock events across the state, and communicating the policy and work of the association to ranchers and affiliated industry members. Brewster’s experience includes extensive work in journalism and communications-both in Montana and nationally, experience with outdoor recreation and product marketing, serving as press officer for the 1980 Winter Olympics, training horses, and owning and managing several different ranches in Montana. “Bill brings to this organization a great background in the livestock industry and in communications but, more importantly, he brings a passion for our industry that I feel will make him a very effective representative for MSGA,” said Pilcher. Brewster said working for MSGA will be a great opportunity to utilize his experience and continue his involvement in Montana’s livestock industry. “I look forward to getting out in the country, visiting with ranchers and hearing their concerns, and bringing their message back to the organization,” said Brewster. “Ranching is our state’s largest and most important industry, and the Montana Stockgrowers Association is here to serve as a voice for that industry.” Brewster resides in Townsend with his wife, Georgjean, and will work out of the Helena MSGA office.
