small private plots of land. At right is rural mill to which collective farmers
bring th eir grain for grinding. For many peasants, the long hours waiting in
line at mills provide relaxation and social opportunities to visit with friends.

element. The Dacians and Getae trace
their ancestry back to Dacus and Geta,
two of the sons of Mash, the son of
Aram. Aram is, in the Bible, listed as
the YOllngest son of Shem (Genesis

the east, are Japhetic (Gen. 10:2).
The family of Mash settled in Eastern
Europe about 2100 B.C. They were
not Latinized in culture until the second
century A.D.
