Gifts That Make a Difference for Hanover Students
Verizon Supports Reading Olympics
During the March Board of Directors Meeting, HEF Vice President Fitz Rogers accepted
a check from Randy Dillard, Verizon Area Manager, on behalf of Verizon Foundation to
support the 2010-2011 Reading Olympics program at Hanover County Public Schools.
Reading Olympics is a reading comprehension and literacy appreciation program that
aims to increase students’ enjoyment of reading and to improve reading skills.
First Place Winners of the Reading Olympics in County
Competition went to Chickahominy Middle School Team, Purple Polka-
Dotted Pufferfish. The team included students Carter Braun, Keegan Braun,
Bailey Hall, Nathaniel Hall, Ashley Harrell, Megan Hill, Jordan Jones, Zac
Mantlo. Samuel Murray, Riley Satterwhite, Katie Smith, Johnny Willing and
Coaches Suzette Braun and Patty Hall

Chick-fil-A ® Gives Scholarship
In May, Sharon Potts, Marketing Associate, presented a $1,000 gift on behalf of
Chick-fil-A @ Virginia Center, to Vern Inge, President of the Hanover Education
Foundation at the foundation’s board meeting. This scholarship is given to a student
with a desire to continue their post-high school education.
