<strong>Celebration</strong> <strong>of</strong> Excellence<br />
On October 28, <strong>2010</strong> the Hanover Education Foundation (HEF) hosted the<br />
12 th Annual <strong>Celebration</strong> <strong>of</strong> Excellence in Education. The event was held<br />
at the Omni Richmond Hotel to honor outstanding Hanover educators<br />
and community members whose significant contributions have supported<br />
major education initiatives <strong>of</strong> Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS). The<br />
Hanover County School Board and government leaders joined<br />
Superintendent <strong>of</strong> Schools Stewart Roberson, school staff members, and<br />
community business partners to celebrate awards and recognition<br />
garnered by Hanover County teachers, administrators and support staff<br />
over the past year.<br />
Music for the evening was provided by the Patrick Henry High School<br />
Essence choir directed by Stephanie Ransome. The colors were<br />
presented by the Patrick Henry High School NJROTC Color Guard under<br />
the direction <strong>of</strong> MGSgt Franklin Dubose, USMC.<br />
Altria Group, Inc., Coventry Health Care, Kings Dominion, Patrick Pontiac<br />
Buick GMC and the Rotary Club <strong>of</strong> Mechanicsville were the major<br />
sponsors <strong>of</strong> the evening. Table sponsors included: Bank <strong>of</strong> America,<br />
Battlefield Commons LLC, Bear Island Paper Company, Bon Secours<br />
Memorial Regional Medical Center, Bradley Properties, Inc., Coca-Cola<br />
Refreshment, Dominion Virginia Power, EVB, Daniel K. Fryer, Carolyn and<br />

Erin Beard, 2 nd grade teacher at Henry Clay Elementary School was<br />
honored as the Hanover Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year. Shortly after Ms. Beard had<br />
been chosen as Hanover Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year, she was awarded the use<br />
<strong>of</strong> a new vehicle <strong>of</strong> her choosing by Michael Patrick, General Manager <strong>of</strong><br />
Patrick Pontiac Buick GMC. On the night <strong>of</strong> the gala, Owen Matthews <strong>of</strong><br />
Kings Dominion presented Mrs. Beard with unlimited family visits for the<br />
2011 season.<br />

Mr. Vaughan Alexander, president <strong>of</strong> the Rotary, was present at the gala.<br />
Other awards and recognitions that were presented at the <strong>Celebration</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Excellence included the HEF 2011 Partner <strong>of</strong> Excellence Award, the<br />
Superintendent’s Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development Award, Beginning Teachers <strong>of</strong><br />
the Year Awards, REB Awards, National Board Certification Recognitions,<br />
Hanover Support Employee <strong>of</strong> the Year, Creative Instructional Grant<br />
Awards, and the Excellence-in- Educational Leadership Awards.<br />
“The theme for the evening was Hanover’s Got Talent. Thanks to the<br />
support <strong>of</strong> all <strong>of</strong> our sponsors, we were able to celebrate the talents and<br />
creativity <strong>of</strong> Hanover’s excellent teachers and educational leaders. It<br />
was truly a night to remember,” said Margaret Hill, Executive Director <strong>of</strong><br />
the HEF.<br />
