Well, our last show of the season has come and
gone. It was a challenging weekend, beginning
with the weather. It was 49° Saturday with rain
showers and 80° and sunny Sunday.
There were fewer overall entries for the
weekend, but we had more horses. There were
61 horses, 30 of which were newcomers!
We had one weanling and one yearling so
we did not hold our halter futurities. We had one
barrel racer, so no jackpot. However, we had
more cutters and reiners. Go figure. One happy
cutter, Carl Wagner of Everton MO., received
$378.75 in the Cutting Jackpot. Gayle
Bieganowski of Neosho MO won $378.75 for her
win in the Western Pleasure Jackpot. These
paybacks were partially funded by the proceeds
of our first Stallion Service Sale.
Our stock contractor forgot to bring our
cattle so some of our cutters went out and
gathered roping steers out of the pasture. The
cattle worked well for them, too!
All in all it was a good show. We met a lot
of new folks who I hope will be coming back next
year.
GOOD SPORTS:
Bill Arends, of McAlester, OK: Following the
color classes, when most folks were back indoors,
Evelle Hasler Houck of Pierce City MO was
working her gelding on a longe line in the
outdoor arena. She took a bad step and broke
her ankle. Bill was right there and used one of
his horse's splint boots to stablize Evelle's ankle.
Her husband, Matt, took her to the hospital for
treatment and, according to her mother, she will
be laid up for several more weeks. Xray techs
left the splint boot on and it was eventually
returned to Bill.
Bill brings a bunch of nice horses & exhibitors
to our shows. He's also a nurse, seriously, and
one of the nicest guys to have around.
Tim Scott of Anderson MO: Kevin
Richardson (a WP trainer) brought Diana Hird's
stallion, Poco Cheyenne Whisky, to show in
Western Pleasure. "Chey" is a trained cutting
horse and they wanted someone to show him in
that class, too. I put Kevin in touch with Tim.
Tim agreed to show Chey in cutting and did a
great job. I bet he listens to me, though, next
time I tell him that a horse can REALLY move.
Tim can REALLY ride, though, as he
proved in the "Extreme Cowboy" competition a
couple of months ago in Kansas City.
Tim is pretty handy to have around the
shows,too. He and his wife, Jody, are always
willing to jump in and work while also coaching
daughters Chaney & Bailey.
Tim and Jody brought their stallion,
Twister Gold (Mick) on Sunday for reining and
he was awesome to watch. I'm confident that
Mick will have his ABRA registration before next
show season, too. Right, Jody?

On a personal note:
This will be my last newsletter as president of
Heart of America Buckskin. I'd like to take a
moment to thank all of you who have supported
our club throughout the past four years. I've met
some wonderful folks who have worked very
hard in a variety of ways to keep the shows
moving along and to support our club. It would
take too much space to thank them all but I do
want you to know how much I appreciate your
support.
I know that Stacia will do a great job as
president and I urge all you to get to know her
and support the efforts of her and the rest of the
new officers and board members. Their email

page so feel free to contact them with any ideas,
comments or suggestions or just email

Kristi Hartzell will be handling the
correspondence at that address as well as the
Stallion Service Sale.
I look forward to seeing all of you back with
us next year. My plan is to work less and show
more. Skip and I are kinda rusty but we'll be
working throughout the winter to get back in
shape.
I'm also looking forward to two ABRA QH
foals and two Paint foals next spring. One of the
Paints might well be buckskin solid, too!
I'll still probably be one of the first to arrive
at the arena and among the last to leave and I'll
always be available on the phone or by email. I
will also still be taking care of the HABHA web
site so, if you see anything which needs attention
please let me know.
Have a wonderful fall and winter, get all rested
up, and make plans to join us early next spring.
