health based drive. For that very reason, Jo and Meshell Ward approached<br />

Mona about joining forces with River Valley Tobacco Free Coalition.<br />

John Taylor Attended the CSH Luncheon at Governor's mansion in Little Rock and<br />

provided Lavaca Schools with WIC packets to distribute. Breastfeeding display in<br />

lobby <strong>of</strong> the Fort Smith Public Library in celebration <strong>of</strong> World Breastfeeding<br />

Week.<br />

WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK SUMMARY 2009<br />

County planned events: The Sebastian County <strong>Health</strong> Unit unveiled the new<br />

Breastfeeding room on August 7th, 2009 at 11:00 am. County Judge, David<br />

Hudson cut the ribbon. All Breastfeeding mothers participating in the WIC<br />

program at the Sebastian County <strong>Health</strong> Unit and the WIC only clinic who attend<br />

the event were recognized during the celebration on August 7th. Our<br />

Breastfeeding moms were treated to nutritious snacks and have door prizes to<br />

give away on that day. View the new bulletin board focusing on the benefits <strong>of</strong><br />

Breastfeeding in our front lobby.<br />

Mona Clemons presented for River Valley Tobacco Coalition. Judge David<br />

Hudson spoke about importance <strong>of</strong> breastfeeding. Stephanie Underwood<br />

shared testimonies <strong>of</strong> breastfeeding moms during natural disasters. Three MRSA<br />

Presentations. Rapid HIV Testing and Distribution <strong>of</strong> Materials to Gateway<br />

House. "Sebastian Superstar" a monthly newsletter focusing on the successes <strong>of</strong><br />

our local health unit, our staff and our community. We hope to continue a<br />

monthly edition.<br />

Van Buren: Diabetes Workshop with nutrition element monthly. Eight enrolled<br />

in August classes. Weekly PSA in local papers addressing Quitline through<br />

OMHN. 7 SOS fax referrals by OMHN Tobacco Program. YMHF case manager<br />

working with all 3 schools for pregnancy prevention. Currenly has 72 moms and<br />

58 babies. 162 people screened in OMHN/Reach Out and Connect program.<br />

MAPP (Medication Assistance Program) program/7 new patients enrolled with<br />

110 currently enrolled. $59,175.33 medications this month. Four print articles<br />

published on tobacco cessation and four radio programs. The Van Buren County<br />

<strong>Health</strong> <strong>Department</strong> recently held its annual Immunization <strong>Health</strong> Fair to prepare<br />

children for the up-coming school year. This year’s theme, “Join us for an<br />

Immunization Luau” was sponsored by The Ozark Mountain <strong>Health</strong> Network and<br />

the Tea Coalition. While waiting, kids enjoyed refreshments, fishing for toys and<br />

face painting. Drawings for door prizes were held after the clinic for five lucky<br />

individuals. Thanks to the generosity <strong>of</strong> our community, this effort was a success,<br />

with 143 immunizations given.<br />

Washington: Began work on mass flu clinic plans.<br />

Yell: Yell County diabetes support group. River Valley Prevention Coalition plans<br />

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome awareness activities.<br />

• Met with Gina Vining on 8/28/09 and discussed school flu clinics.<br />

• Contacted Debbie Johnson 8/27/09 via phone, email and cell phone re.<br />

Superintendent/Board mtg. scheduled for Sept 4 th , 2009 to be present to<br />

answer their questions regarding flu clinics. Judy Martin’s Flu Training is
