<strong>Leeds</strong>, <strong>Grenville</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>Lanark</strong> Community<br />
The geographic area of <strong>Leeds</strong> , <strong>Grenville</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Lanark</strong> (LGL) consists of 22<br />
municipalities. The municipalities in the northern part of the region are part<br />
of the upper tier level <strong>Lanark</strong> County, except for the town of Smiths Falls. All<br />
municipalities in the south, except Brockville, Gananoque <strong>and</strong> Prescott, are part of<br />
the <strong>Unit</strong>ed Counties of <strong>Leeds</strong> & <strong>Grenville</strong>. The LGL area encompasses a geographic<br />
footprint of 6330 square kilometers with an average population density of 25.7<br />
persons per square kilometer (7).<br />
Population Distribution<br />
According to the 2011 Census of Canada, the population count for LGL was 164,973<br />
people (99,306 in the <strong>Unit</strong>ed Counties of <strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Grenville</strong>, <strong>and</strong> 65,667 in <strong>Lanark</strong><br />
County) (8). The distribution of this population varies considerably between<br />
municipalities. Mississippi Mills, North <strong>Grenville</strong>, Rideau Lakes, <strong>and</strong> the city of<br />
Brockville contain the greatest number of people compared to other municipalities<br />
in LGL (Figure 1).<br />
