HDSA CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE LEAD WAY IN RESEARCH EFFORTS Become a Part of the Team! Be a Part of the Cure! The Center of Excellence program is an integral part of HDSA’s network of support and services for our HD families across the US. HDSA Centers of Excellence serve as hubs for state of art medical services that include genetic testing and counseling, neurology, psychology/ psychiatry, assistive therapies including speech, physical and occupational, as well as nutrition and social support services. But in addition to providing outstanding medical and social services and support, every HDSA Center of Excellence is a gateway to clinical and observational research “...HDSA Center of Excellence is a gateway to clinical and observational research opportunities that may yield an effective treatment or cure...” opportunities that may yield an effective treatment or cure for HD. On the following pages you will find updated information for HDSA Centers of Excellence as well as the research that is being conducted at each. If you are interested in participating in a clinical or observational trial or research study, please call the contact listed for that study/trial to learn the specific criteria needed for that study. A brief description of each research study is included following the list of HDSA Centers of Excellence. It was through the sacrifice of our HD families in 1983 and again in 1993 that researchers found the first ‘marker’ for HD and then the location of the defective gene that causes the disease. You can help to break new ground and advance research in the care and cure of HD. Join the HDSA research team – be a part of the cure! 15
